I have been diligently searching for settings, and I''m back with a few more questions. This is the first time my husband and I have bought a loose stone and a setting separately, so please bear with me if my questions are of the "duh!" variety.
I have found my dream stone and my dream setting in two separate places. The purchase of the diamond is in the works, and I have just discovered the setting today so I have not had a chance to speak yet with this vendor. What I would like to ask you all is what is the protocol involved when the diamond and setting are purchased from two different vendors?
From what I have gathered through reading older posts, the jeweler who sells the diamond should also set it. Is this correct? If so, then I suppose the setting guy would mail the completed setting to the diamond guy.
My next question is would the diamond need to be mailed to the setting guy in order to make the setting, or can he work off the exact dimensions of the stone? I hate to think of my diamond zipping back and forth across the country.
Hopefully I will be able to get in touch with the vendor shortly and get these answers straight from the horse''s mouth. I just wanted to get a general idea of the whole process from you all. Thanks!
