Hello to all,

The problem deciding is also difficult between the most mentioned vendors - Blue Nile and 77diamonds. I haven't looked much the other sites from US, because of the really high custom taxes which make the purchase oversease not so cheap.
I'm little bit of scared Blue Nile for some reason and today i started to really look into 77diamonds - are their prices the best i can get in Europe? I think their Allure setting also looks quite like Tiffany but i don't find many pictures or posts about it.

Little introduction to the background so far - i'm new here but have read quite a lot of posts so far and i have self-educated myself from various webpages. Also i have been to local jewellery stores and during past few weeks i met one jeweller who showed me different loose stones and tried to make a sale but based on the information i have read here and other places i decided to put it on hold (it was round 0.72 E SI2, with EGL Asia certificate).

Diamond:
So far i understand that i would like to get atleast F in colour, something between 0.8-1 ct, the cut has to be exxellent, clarity maybe starting with VS2 (but as i understand it's very hard to buy online, because i can't see the inclusions with my own eyes). Faint to none fluorescence. Symmetry and Polsih - can they be very good to exxellent or only the latter to get a good stone for sure?

Setting:
Since i'm looking for a round diamond solitaire setting i'm battling between 6 or 4 prongs - really difficult to decide. I don't understand if one lets the diamond sparkle more than the other? For some reason i'm leaning towards 6 prongs, because of the round look, but at the same time i want the stone (which is probably gonna be under 1 ct to look as big and bright as possible). And then there is the knife edge vs comfort question. This Allure setting seems to have incorporated both - knife at the front and sides like comfort.

Budget:
I really would hope to get the ring with 5000 €, even less if it's possible because it's a lot of money to me.
I really wanted to get a Tiffany but reading here made me reconsider, because i would only get 0.5 ct stone there with those parameters.

And the last thing - what do you think about engravings? Does it leave the impression that i'm so sure she's gonna say yes or does it make it really nice and personal. What do people usually engrave? I was thinking my fiance and my own initials. Hmmm...

Sorry for the long post, i feel like i'm so close with making a decision but then again so far from it because the more i read and lear the more complicated it all gets. How to get most out of my budget..... oh my my ...Please help :)

Thank you all in advance

Where are you based?

Can you travel to Antwerp with ease? If yes, then perhaps you should consider the products and services offered by Rob Van Beurden and his team at Diamond House: http://www.diamondhouse.be/

I am in the UK, and have not bought any high end jewellery in the UK for years due to high cost.

I went to Rob to buy an EC as a 40th present to myself back in 2004, after reading favourable feedbacks via this site.

Have a search for more recent positive feedbacks about him and his team and see.

DK :))

I have considered travelling also, but since i'm from Estonia, it's not very near and plain tickets will bite some of the budget for the ring. The other problem with travelling is that i want to keep this a secret from my gf and we're so together all times , it's hard to come up for a logical explanation why would i need to go to Antwerp :) That's why i have kept going abroad as a plan B.

We have had plans to visit Amsterdam maybe during spring, but as i read, many people find going there for a diamond hunt a little bit disappointing compared to online selection and prices.

I second working with Rob van Beurden and his team in Antwerp. I am sure then can also send the diamond to Estonia.

I live in Amsterdam and is a gorgeous city!! But - while claiming to be the diamond capital of the world - you will probably be dissapointed about what jewelers have to offer here :nono: But you could try Amsterdam Diamond Center (Gassan diamonds) as they have a reasonable offering and they are also more geared to the more educated shoppers from the US and Asia. In terms of price, I bet you can get a better deal and better quality elsewhere. I would contact Rob and see what he can do for you.

Thank you, i contacted Rob. Will wait to see what prices and settings they have to offer. On their webpage the settings are little bit too much for what i was looking. This ring shopping/diamond education jorney is taking up almost all my free time, i really hope to find the best solution soon. I can't even do my work, regulary checking this site and searching for diamonds online, crazy! :)
