Hi,

Where can I go to learn about Diamonds? I travel a lot and run into many characters during my travel...Hong Kong, Bangkok,Tokyo,Mumbai.....always running into guys who have Diamonds at a Bargain!! now of course I would never buy anything Unless I was perfectly sure I knew what I was doing. Where can I go to school to learn about rough diamonds and polished/finished Diamonds? course needs to be in English......IGI ok? what are costs? Thanks,

You can find out some information about this diamond school in Florida
(American Institute of Diamond cutting) at the following web address.

I believe that Stephen Hofer is one of the instructors there.

GIA offers a 5 day diamond grading ''extension'' class on campus or at one of their travelling student labs. They''ll be in Boston this coming June. This is finished diamond grading only. Rough diamonds are only minimally discussed.

This will depend a great deal on how much you want to know, how dedicated a student you want to be, how much you are comfortable in spending and several other issues. There’s not really a single answer.

www.yourgemologist.com is a pretty good place to start for free. There are also quite a few excellent books on the topic.

I notice that a google search for ''diamond education'' produces 52,000 hits, most of which are free and many are quite good. Start with the tutorial at the top of the page here.
