Summary:
Diamonds have come to mean many things to many different people, and that meaning can be as rough or polished as the journey of the diamond itself. Shot on four continents over one year, this three-part documentary series explores the many facets of the world's most intriguing gem. Every year 24 tons of diamonds are teased from the heart of the earth. Once mined, they begin their year-long journey through the "pipeline," a vast network encompassing five continents. The diverse cast of characters includes an international prospector, an impoverished miner, a child cutter, a celebrity jeweler, and a high-end dealer. By the end of their journey these tiny bits of carbon will have made multimillionaires of some and virtual slaves of others.
A unique companion site, Diamond Road Online, will be available in mid-September, allowing users to immerse themselves - as curious observers or role-playing participants - in an exploration of the global diamond trade.
Diamond Road and Diamond Road Online were conceived, from the start, as a complete package with each component complimenting and enriching the other. The story of Diamond Road is not static, it continues to grow and change on Diamond Road Online. Issues raised in the documentary are expanded on the website. But it goes much further than that.
