Using the pricescope search I keep gravitating towards this diamond:

1.74ct Round HCA 0.9
J
VS2
Depth: 61.1%
Table: 55%
Crown: 34
Pav: 40.8
Gir: thin-medium
Pol: Excellent
Sym: Excellent
Cutlet: None
FL: None

It fits in my budget and wanted to know what you guys think of it.

Here is the link on James Allen : http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/J-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1207204.asp

Here are my priorities in terms of the stone:
1) Cut (Ideal-H&A)
2) Size (1.4-2.0)
3) Eye Clean
4) Color (Appear Colorless)

I am looking to spend about 10k for the stone and the ring. I am open to looking at other stone. I am not 100% set on this one so if you guys have any other stones I might want to look at feel free to recommend them.

Looks good from the numbers.

Request an IS image from them.

Excuse my ignorance but what does IS stand for??

Thanks for the quick response. I will ask JA for an ideal scope image.

Would a diamond with these specs be optimal to the original stone??

1.72ct Round
J
VS1
Depth: 61.3%
Table: 59%
Polish: Excellent
Sym: Excellent
Fl: N
7.78 x 7.73 x 4.75

That was the information posted on the website. I asked for more info so I can get the angle measurements. The reason it intrigued me was because it was close to the 60/60 measurements. Does that really make that much of a difference??

Oh yes, the crown and pavilion angles are CRITICAL to how well a diamond will handle light and therefore sparkle and beauty! Further reading below.

In terms of the angles, I understand their importance. I must have phrased the quetion incorrectly. I was more interested in the 60/60 idelogy. Should I be looking for a stone with those parameters?? So for example the two stones I mentioned..if both had the correct angles for there proportions and the same exact statistics (color, size, cut etc.)...would the 61.3/59 stone look better than the 61.1/55 ?? Would the larger table make the stone look larger??

The table size won''t make any difference in the apparent size of the stone. As I understand it, a 60/60 stone will have more brilliance (reflected white light), while a stone with a smaller table, such as the 55 will likely have more fire (reflected colored spectral light). Too large a table can also give off a glassy look at certain angles. Neither is better or worse, it comes down to personal preference.

Ok sorry I must have misunderstood, a larger table can sometimes give the illusion that the diamond might be a little larger in some cases but that is all. Some actually like 60 60 diamonds and go out of their way to find such. I would consider one myself in certain circumstances if the angles were harmonious and the finish of the diamond excellent. It can be a matter of taste, personally I prefer the first diamond.
