Hi everyone;
I am sorry if I am asking this in the wrong area but I am wondering about diamonds in a braclet.
I am looking into diamond braclets, and I was just wondering what color and clarity is acceptable for diamonds being put into a braclet? I saw one once that was a good price but the stones has no sparkle to them what so ever, it was like looking through a piece of cloudy glass. I obviously dont want to buy a piece like that so I know good cut is very important but I just am wondering about the other criteria? thank you

most chain/mall jewelers will have very low quality diamonds in those type of pieces--Tiffany for example uses G vs-vss in their melee and small stones in rings, bracelets etc. I would think H VS would make for very nice quality. what exactly are you looking for style-wise and perhaps we can stear you toward a vendor. James Allen /AKA Dirt Cheap Diamonds had some gorgeous jewelry on their website at one point.......................

Buying diamonds that don''t sparkle.

This has always puzzled me. The beauty of diamonds is that they have the characteristic of refracting light in such a way that is just about unequal to any other gemstone.

So why do so many stores sell stones, and so many people buy these items?

To me it is sort of like buying a flashliight with unreplaceable batteries that only work at 10 % power, or a car that doesn''t run, that can''t be fixed.

I guess it is because a lot of people are using their wallets, instead of their eyes to make purchase decisions.

In my regular trips to scope out the qualities sold by different stores, and stay abreast of market conditions, I am flat out amazed at just how low some of the quality of stones are in these promotional items.

I see so much of this stuff that people turn in to pawn shops and get only a fraction of what they spent in return....

Seems to me like a waste of money.......

thanks for your posts window and Rock.
I am looking for something that has a good amount of diamonds but not a tennis bracelet style. I saw one that had round and I think oval diamonds in it and there was some gold between each stone so it sort of looked like a vine with stuff (diamonds) attached to them.
I will look at dirt cheap diamonds website and see if they have something that looks like her style, thanks.

Rock, yeah I am surprised how bad some diamonds are that stores sell. The diamonds I saw were horrible, there was no way I would buy that but people must or the wouldnt sell them.
I will keep you all posted, thanks

I think the there are two reasons there are so many poorly cut stones out there.

1. Ignorance - Few people have EVER seen a well cut stone. How can demand be generated for something people are oblivious to?

2. Size-Only Mentality. This is a chicken and egg problem. Buyers want size, cutters cut for size, buyers only see dull stones that were cut for size. (But at least they can brag that their dull blob is a full carat.)

A tragic waste of rough, I say, having seen fine cuts.

Every diamond is a compromise of clarity, color, size, cut and cost.
If a bracelet has 30 diamonds that is 30 compromises.
Nice diamond bracelets are VERY VERY expensive.

I'd go for the best cut possible even if the rocks are small.
It will have better light performance than larger but more poorly cut stones.

yeah I agree with you about the diamonds most people see. Its amazing how bad a poorly cut diamond can look.

I saw a beautiful bracelet at Tiffanys which I know she loves, that is probably the one I will get her but I am going to wait on it because it was 6,000, which I dont have at this point but I will have to save up and get that for her.
Thanks

another thought though this may not be what you want..............Tiffany''s Else Peretti makes diamond necklaces and bracelets in the "diamonds by the yard" design: that is bezel set rounds spaced along gold or white gold or platinum delicate chain. This is often copied and it is easy to do so as it a rather simple design.. You could buy through a pricescope vendor 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc etc smal rounds of say 10 points each or more or less and have one of the vendors make you such a bracelet. I have long wanted somthing like that b/c its very simple elegant and wearable day to evening......................
