Diamond Pendant Pricing Question

Hi,

I'm new and ended up here because I want to upgrade my diamond pendant from a .34 stone to about a .50 stone. The store I got it from has an upgrade plan which I thought would be a good thing. Their quote to upgrade to a .51 stone is my stone plus $3595. This seems really high to me or is this a reasonable price. I have not done this before, so I'm partially clueless....but, it seems through my researching on the web that it may be less expensive to just buy a .50 pendant online. Thoughts???

More info if it helps - this is from the store document- it doesn't seem like the typical grading system:
My current stone is AGS-0, Color AAA, Clarity 6
New stone is AGS-0, Color AAA, Clarity 4

Thanks for any input and help that you can offer.

If the stone is graded by AGS, it will have a color grade, not AAA. That indicates in-house grading, and if so, you have no idea what the stone really is. Yes, you absolutely can buy a new pendant at .5 cts. and keep the other one for that price!

Also there is a first time buyer discount! Settings will add a few hundred, obviously.

That jeweler is WAY overpriced!!!!! :nono:

.63 G VS2 $2490 http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-2781311.htm

YIKES! I think your B&M is ripping you off Madmadge! That just doesn't seem right - twice as much money AND you have to give up the original.

Those prices seem out of proportion compared to what DS and Stargurl have found as alternatives. I'd go with a new one, keep the current one (use the diamond in another project? pass along to a family member/daughter? wear it when you are travelling...) and for less money, upgrade with a second.

Thanks everyone for confirming my feeling!! I will take a look at the alternatives you found and go this route. The down side is that I have a gift card to this store, but maybe something non-diamond from them is a better choice. Thanks again for your help!
