Hello to everybody,

I have two different offer with 2 similar diamonds (both in blister and IGI Antwerp report) and I have to decide the best to buy.

1- D IF 1,50 carat, very good, excellent, very good, Fluor slight

2- D IF 1,56 carat, triple excellent, ideal cut, Fluor slight (Comments on certificate: "Graining is present" and this is my doubt because I don't know if this is a problem when I will decide to sell it)

They have the same discount on rapaport list.

So, the second I think is better, but what about Graining?

Please someone can help me?

Thank you

Regards

Mario

Neither... You are paying too much for IF and D colour, which is not necessary... They are IGI certed too... What is your budget?

Hello Stive85,
first of all thank you for considering my question.
I understand that D and IF usually are not necessary and probably IGI is not the same of GIA.
Anyway I would like to know, if you can help me, how much can be important for the price of a diamond the graining on a IF diamond.
Someone told me it is very important and it can lower the price for a 10%. Someone else told me it cannot change the price becouse it is only a comment.
Thank you again
Mario

It's all subjective... an IF stone will be eye clean, so you dont have to worry about the graining being visable.

Again... are you set on such high color and clarity?

Yes, I would like to buy the best possible quality. Not for my eyes, since as you know, I cannot see the difference.
I think that they are very rare and in the future their price will be higher than other kind of color or clarity.
May be I'm wrong......

What are you basing this on though? That could be said about any diamond. "Quality" is based on cut. You can have an excellent quality diamond at vs2.

Why not go get a way bigger stone for the same price? U won't be able to tell difference

Plus your IGI certificate is not going to be worth a GIA or AGS certificate. They are not trusted as being on par with GIA/AGS.
So your D/IF are/could be more like a GIA G/VS stone. I dont think you should worry about what they are worth in the future
when you are buying stones that have a very lenient lab cetificate. Just doesn't make sense.

Your stones should be around $45k to $50k if they are decently cut. Is that about what you are paying?

Hello Stive85, Hello tyty333,
thank you very much for your answers, I am happy to know that someone is trying to help me, in this field that I don't know very much.
Probably you are right about color or clarity and also for IGI certificate (but in Europe 99% of reports are from IGI and Hrd).
But there is a think I am not able to understand. If I had spoken about a GIA certificate, what would you had told me about GRAINING?
On web I have seen a lot of Gia reports where I could read about the fact graining was present. Finally is it a problem or not? I mean the price with graining is lower or not?
Regards Mario

Well you are free to ignore the advice here, because it sounds as though you have made up your mind...

Graining often times does not have any ill effects on a stone, especially one that is "deemed" IF... However, there is a reason it is priced lower, keep that in mind.. After a quick search it is my understanding that sometimes it can have the same look at a fluorescent diamond, and rarely make it appear oily, milky. Very rare and often easily noticeable.

No, I don't want to ignore any advice. But I am only trying to understand something about graining and as you see it is difficult for me, since my English is not very good.
I have seen a lot reports and sometimes I have seen graining on it. I think it is very important to understand how much it can lower a price.
In fact if you are talking as a gemmological expert you are explaining me very well. But when you say: "often times it does not have any ill effect on a stone", you mean effect for my eyes or effect for the price? If I want to sell a stone with graining, someone can tell me: "I must pay less, because on the certificate is written GRAINING!!!" or nobody will use it to pay less?
Thanks
