Hi Everyone, I'm current searching for a diamond for my soon to be fiancé. Lots of great information here but I'm a true newbie and it's all been a bit overwhelming. I'm hoping that some experts here can lead me in the right direction. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm kinda interested in this diamond because of the low table, good HCA, decent price, and it being an H&A diamond. I'm concerned because even though it's a vs1, it seems to have a lot of inclusions, maybe a poor example of a vs1 diamond. Thoughts?

I'm current using the following Pricescope search to narrow down my choices, with H&A selected to ensure that I get a good cut and symmetry because I'm a newbie:

No the inclusions are fine. You have nothing to worry about. The Idealscope is good too.

I think it's a safe choice. Though I personally would rather have a larger G SI1 or VS2.

The Whiteflash stone Gypsy linked above is a solid choice.

If you can handle a lower-colored stone, either of these are a good value:

2.2ct, I, SI1

1.746ct, I, VS2

Here are a couple more options, under budget:
1.842ct, H, SI1

1.8ct, H, VS2

Hi Gypsy and RockyRacoon, thanks so much for the feedback and list of other options. I think her preference is quality over size since she has small fingers and doesn't really wear jewelry. I would say the 1.5ct range is good and I'm trying to find the best diamond for my money in the high quality range. I'm also more conservative on the quality specs since I'm such a layman and higher specs makes it a safer bet. For example, all those markings in the previous VS1 diamond seems iffy and scary to me, so its good to get feedback that that isn't an issue for a VS1 level diamond. Looking at some other VS1's, they seem to have less inclusions. I also chose one thats marked as H&A for the same reasons.

Do you have any suggestions with similar specs to the James Allen one that would be better? Any help is very much appreciated!

There's really nothing to worry about with any of the stones I linked you to. A G is indistinquishable from an F when set. You could (and many do) wear G's as sidestones to F centers, or vice versa.

As for VS1. You really are wasting money on clarity. Even small fingers like size. We have several folks here with size 3 or 4 fingers who wear 2.5 carat plus.

You are talking about something the size of a pencil eraser. Don't let the magnified images scare you. You can EASILY go to VS2. You won't see ANYTHING when you get the stone.

Is there a reason you prefer JA? They don't have anything in the size range for you in a G color... whiteflash is a good vendor. So is good old gold. So is Brian Gavin.

Hi Gypsy, no particular attachment to JA other than the fact that it showed up on a H&A search. Your feedback is giving me the confidence to go to a lower spec'ed diamond that has better value. Did you mean to reference the same whiteflash diamond or was there a different one that you were thinking?

Do you have other suggestions in this range that you would recommend since I really don't know what looks good. I'm willing to sacrifice size for "quality" as long as it makes sense to do so. If you think this is the one to go with, I'm going to move forward with it. Appreciate the time and feedback, makes this mysterious process much more manageable :)

I'm happy to help you as much as you need. I did mean to repeat the same diamond because I think it is a very good compromise. Still very conservative in specs, but a much better value for you. And it has nice hearts, nice idealscope and it is right at 7.8mm.

The other diamonds in the size/price range but they are all SI1 clarity. Now it is very safe to get an eyeclean SI1 stone. And I would (and have) buy them in a heartbeat. But I know you are very new to this, and leaning toward the conservative side and VS2 is a much conservative choice.

It's a rare size range-- just shy of 2 carats and very popular. And F/G colors are also very popular and ... VS2 is as well so the pickings are a bit slim. :wavey:

Is the 62.4% depth for this one non ideal? From browsing around, it seems like less than 62% is preferred. What would be the impact of this and is this why its an "expert selection" compared to an ACA? Thanks.

Gypsy or others, any thoughts on the depth concerns? Also, any overall thoughts of this or another stone would be very much appreciated. About to pull the trigger so I'm looking for some confidence :)
