Hi everybody,

My fiance would like to buy a solitare pendant and I''m helping her find the stone. The page here /diamonds.pricescope.com/ideal.asp> suggests a good stone for a pendant has about 32.5 degrees crown angle and 40.5 degrees pavillion angle. To get these angles, you would need to get a diamond that is in the "very good" or lower cut.

My question is, does anybody have any experience buying a stone for a pendant? Is the page correct, that an ideal cut stone is not good for a pendant, but instead I should get something with a lower cut? I got her an AGS0 stone for her e-ring and that turned out great; just want to make sure I should _NOT_ suggest something similar for a pendant.

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am not suggesting an ideal cut is not good for a pendant.
Only that a shallower stone will work better, cost less, measure bigger and look heaps bigger.

Could you explain why a shallower stone will work better for a pendant? Is it because it will look brighter than an ideal cut when looked at from a distance? I understand it will have better spread and cheaper.

How would I identify whether a stone is good for a pendant? Should I focus mainly on the crown and pavillion angles, then HCA score? Thanks!

I went ahead and got ideal cut stones for my earrings, and I can''t imagine them being any prettier. I''d choose ideal cut for a pendant if it were me.

I got a stone with a crown/pavillion angle of 34/41 and the pendant looks very white and bright from across the room. Honestly though, I really wouldn''t worry about trying to find a stone that is better as a pendant stone versus a ring stone. I''d just get a well-cut stone in general.

2nd! I bought H&A for my earrings and plan to do the same when buying a pendant. (I may go "down" to almost H&A for a pendant, but I still will hope to find the best cut I can w/in my budget.)
