Hi guys,

I am looking to buying an engagement ring for my fiance(already proposed).
Here's what I was looking at:
1.24 carat
H
VS2
Excellent Cut (Ideal)
HCA 0.9
GIA report of 6121793199

Table: 57
Depth: 60.6
Crown: 33.5
Pav: 40.8

On blue nile, it said symmetry was only very good. What does that mean?
Next, are the inclusions anything that would make the diamond more prone to breakage? Is there a way to tell or should I just call?

Thanks,
~yialanliu

Hi yialanyiu-

I am pretty new here myself, and am still in the learning process about diamonds so can't really answer your question. But I've done lots of searches on here and found out a lot of good information. Sometimes you have to phrase things in different ways until you get answers you are looking for.

Also, I've looked at some of the sites of some of the diamond vendors, like Good Old Gold, and he has a pretty extensive set of chapters that discuss all of these things like cut and symmetry so you might take a look at the website.

The only thing (in my limited understanding) that I know about inclusions is that if there are fractures (feathers), they are problematic if they come to the surface, or are near an edge, or if multiples meet. I'm not sure a diamond that has these types of issues would ever get classified VS1, but that's where I know nothing and hope someone more knowledgeable can answer for you, but there are threads on feather if you search for it. (May take a bit to find it.)

Good luck- I hope someone has some good info for you.

I pulled the GIA report on the stone, looks pretty nice, and the fact thats its rated a very good can be any one of several reasons, check this out..
