Well, I thought my recent upgrade to a 2.56ct stone would satisfy my diamond fever for at least a little while. Apparently, this was a very naive thought. The latest bee in my bonnet is to create a pair of diamond stud earrings. One of the earrings will be made using my old 1ct e-ring stone, which is currently just sitting in my jewelry box. Since my husband has not yet recovered from my e-ring upgrade, he''s told me to cool my jets on purchasing a matching 1ct. for the other earring.

What I''m thinking of doing is using a cubic zirconia for the other earring. I would eventually replace it with a diamond, but that would be down the road a bit. I figure this way, I can enjoy my diamond stud earrings NOW rather than later.

Is this a silly idea? I really, really want to put my old 1ct. stone to use. Can anyone think of a reason why this would not be a good idea? As a general rule, I don''t like wearing cz jewelry (only because my "head" keeps telling me it''s fake,) but I think that since one of the pair will be real, I won''t give it a thought.

I want to bounce this idea off you guys, so any comment/suggestions are appreciated!

I think it could work well... A few things to consider: CZs are D white--what color is your ering stone? In earrings you have leeway because people aren't up close to them and it's hard to discern big differences since they are far apart on either side of your head. Just make sure the "super perfect" appearance of the CZ will work with your real diamond to a degree of comfort YOU are happy with.

IMO, the biggest 'flaw" with CZs are how perfect they look--too perfect.

PS Asha makes an "H" colored CZ...but they are expensive and many people think over-rated for the price. Do a search on Ashas and see what they say.

Personally, I'd wait on the earring set and put your one carat stone into a pendant. CZs just don't look real to me. Jennifer is right too about the color difference, but also, CZs have windowing, so you cz earring may not look as real as your diamond and this would make me feel a bit insecure if someone asked about the fake stone's authenticity

. Of course rude people MAY do this.

I'm so tired right now to think straight

but, this is a personal decision, however, the better you match your diamond to the cz, cut wise too the more real the set will appear.

put it in a tie tack and loan it too your hubby :}
Just kidding sorta...
I second the idea of a pendant. surround it by small saphires or rubies and it would be super yummy.

It sounds good when you first think about it but I have to agree with the previous posters that it might not match quite right.

Also, based on your comments, I do not think this will really satisfy you for very long, if at all.

A pendant sounds like it might be a better choice.

Just my opinion.

Well, I went ahead and sent my old 1ct diamond to wink to make a pair of stud earrings. The other earring will be a cz. It just looked so lonely in my jewelry box, and I actually felt guilty for abandoning it for a bigger and better diamond! I'm a diamond nut, in more ways than one, I guess.

I heard from Sheila today, and it sounds like I will be getting my new earrings later this week. I'm really excited about this little project! I'll post pics once I receive them.

Thank you all for your comments and suggestions! In the end, I could not resist following through with the diamond/cz combo idea for the earrings.

I think you will be fine. And if if the unlikely event you don't like the pairing, it's a CZ; nothing broker the bank.
