Hi all! Quick question for you experts out there! I was looking at a G colored GIA certified diamond today and while the stone was very pretty, I can definitely see a slight hint of color/warmth. Is this normal or am I just a bit color sensitive? I was previously looking at an E color with strong blue fluoro and this stone was ICY white with a hint of purple in direct sun.

I know lots of you have G (and H-J) stones (very beautiful stones

). My question is how many of you can see a difference between a G and lets say an E. I can see a pretty big difference...am I normal or do you think I am just sensitive to color??? Just curious....thanks!!!!!

And also, does cut affect color? For example would an excellent cut G appear whiter than a good cut G???? Thanks again!

Yes, cut will definitely affect the appearance of color.
You just have to be comfortable with "the" diamond you choose. You''ll know it when you see it. It''s a personal thing. My sweet spot is a nicely cut F.

cut indeed affects color. i''m color sensitive and can personally see the color difference between an E and a G.

Well I had an H Color with great cut and I could see a yellowish tint viewing from side angles with faint Fluro. I returned that one and got an F and its icey white! I love it! If you can find a good deal go with an F!

I can tell a difference between an E and G when they are side by side. When they aren''t next to each other I can''t tell the colour. I like H-I coloured stones, but I''ve only seen a lower coloured stone once.

I had a .32 F VS2 very good cut stone that I just LOVED! When I upgraded, I went up in size but down in the other Cs to .53 G SI-1 good cut. I noticed a big difference in both the color and the sparkle. Although it was just 1 grade difference in color it was there and I think the cut and clarity definately affected the coloring. I never really fell in love with that diamond...... In this next upgrade (still waiting very impatiently for it to be returned to me!!!) I still have a G coloring but the VS2 and Excellent cut seemed to make a big difference in how the color looked.

Excellent cut will definitely make a difference. That is why you see lots of people on here with I, J, and K color stones. I am sure many people can tell a G from an E when they are next to each other, but that never happens in daily life. I think a G is a great value and very white when ideal cut.

I can see a difference in E to G ideal cut stones from three feet away. But that''s just me - I am very color sensitive.

I can tell the difference between an E and a G.

I discovered I am color sensitive to the extreme yet I cannot perceive subtle differences in size. Yes, I can also see the difference between an E and G, especially when viewed at a slight angle.

My DW is sensitive to color ... as she said: "I definiterly will LIKE ''J'' if it gets me a larger stone!

Nobody has mentioned this yet but you''re looking at cushions, right? I''ve noticed more apparent color difference E to G in cushions than E to G in rounds at the same carat weight. For whatever reason, cushions and some other fancy shapes "hold" color more than rounds I think.

(Also with the purple you mention outdoors and the strong fluorescence, remember that on a clear day outdoors you''re also going to get blue sky reflected from the stone.)

I personally cannot see the difference between an E and a G, unless I am in an office situation, preferably with daylight-lighting in a north-facing office, and looking at the stones table down.

Hi guys! Thank you so much for your replies!!!! And yes, Elmo, I am (or I should say was) looking at cushions!!!! I finally made a decision on a stone and I went with the E color with the fluorescence!!!!!!
