I am looking for a diamond: 1 to 1.25 carats G/H/I color si1 or vs2 cut as perfectly as possible for all the obvious optic reasons but also to face up as large as possible so no deep ideal cuts, no thick girdles all of which do show up in a great many ideal cut stones. I want a blazer! Thanks in advance!

There are lots of highly educated dimanod savvy folks on the board (i am not one of them) but I think it would be helpful if you included a price range. With all the neccessary info, I am sure one of the experts could find you a real beauty!

What you want to use it for?

i am helping a friend (somewhat clueless) put together a ring for his fiancee.

What is the budget? Going for H&A or just ideal cut?

just ideal

Fire is color light, brilliance is white light. Typically, fire is enhance with a higher crown angle, smaller table, deeper crown, but sacrifice the spread because more mass will be in the crown.

question: do you think lower color stones do better cut for brilliance or fire?

Sorry, out of my league. :P

But I color should be just fine, not really that low a color, at least to me.

which one of these looks better?

I think it depends on how much you want to spend. The first one is slightly cheaper but the second one is a slightly bigger. HCA would say the first one has a better cut but it would probably be hard to make that call without actual images of the diamond.

With some diamonds which are cut for fire such as fiery ideal cuts as described above, often the physical depths are greater which can lead to loss of spread.

There was a discussion about lower colour diamonds and various proportion configurations being preferable, but I believe opinions were mixed from the pros.

This one looks promising Bgray, it might show a bit more brilliance due to the crown angle, ask for an Idealscope image if it checks out as eyeclean.

thanks Lorelei!
