Hi Anthony,

Here is a screen shot of the stone you're describing. The pale reds and whites under the table are areas indicative of leakage which is due to the crown/pavilion/table relationship as well as lower girdle, star and upper girdle cutting. Since we do not know the minor facet details of the stone you're describing I punched in a "popular" set of minor facet proportions however the diamond may differ (slightly or drastically) from this example.

By contrast here is an example of a stone that exhibits some of the highest brilliance you can get in a round brilliant. Note the amount of dark reds and blacks as compared to the example above.

And while I'm at it ... here is an example of something that's even worse using the same basic measurements of that diamond but changing the minor facet structure. Note the blatant whites under the table and around the perimeter.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards,

I can't help you out at all, but I think the pictures Rhino posted are too cool! I love all the gadgets that can tell you what the numbers alone can't. Way to go, Rhino!

Thanks researcher. The DiamCalc tool is the next best thing to seeing it live and there is a good amount of info to be garnered from it. The more info the better of course. One weakness is that most OGI/Sarin's don't give minor facet info (although the more elaborate models do) for us to input into the DiamCalc. As you can see from the 1st and 3rd examples, changes in minor facets can and do affect optical properties within the stone.

Peace,
