Heya Guys,

Not sure if my last post went through...I''ll try again...

I posted the other day about the 2.01 F SI1 I am looking at and got some great advice....it really is a lovely stone, but despite trawling on this fab forum for months now, I don''t feel like I''m much of an ''expert''....so I''m hoping that you all might very generously give me some advice....again!!
The 2.01ct F SI1 that I''m looking at is fab but for a thin - very thick girdle....Aus $33,000
I have since been given the specs for an 2.08 E SI1 from an online vendor that comes in at Aus $36,000
The dilema is that I can''t see the stone till after it''s purchased - but have a 14day return option....

I''m hoping that I could get some advice as to whether it''s a better idea to wait for the 2.08ct E SI1 and pay the extra, or be happy with the 2.01ct F SI1 that I had already seen.....

AARRGGHH....I''m sooo confused....

Here''s the specs for the 2.01ct F SI1

The specs for the 2.08 E SI1

Crown ang 35
Crown Hgt 14.8
Pav angle 40.7
Pav depth 42.8

Thanks in advance....I think I may be driving my gorgeous fiance mad....

I would say if you trust the vendor with the E colour diamond then ask them about the visibility of the inclusion and their honest opinion about the performance of the diamond having inspected it themselves...I am assuming you can''t get pictures of the diamond or ideal scope pictures?

At the end of the day I think an extra $3,000 is worth it but it really depends if you trust the vendor and if you think 14 days is sufficient.

TOTALLY not an expert on the numbers but the second one seems better, but please of course let the more knowledgeable people weigh in!

Welcome to PS

Prefer the second out of the two - check with the vendor it is eyeclean though. Do you have any more options? Unless having an E colour matters to you, you could drop the colour a bit and not really see a difference...What is DCLA ice Ideal - some sort of cut label or grading report?

Also don't worry about driving your fiance mad

, this is an important diamond and you want to get it right, take your time! If you love the first diamond then fine, but I wouldn't want the thin to very thick girdle personally or the 59% table, however the girdle would be more of an issue for me. You have to do what you think is best really as you have seen the diamonds...

Thanks for your opinion with this....I guess the ? is if I am going to buy the E SI1, sight unseen ( OK cause there is the 14 day return option ) and then lose the option on the F SI1, if it turns out not be all I had hoped....

My very patient fiance is leaving it up to me, but I think he is of the opinion ''bird in the hand''....he is not familiar with buying online for a purchase this important/big - even with a return option....

The decision really has to be made tonight...and I think I''m going quietly mad....
The F SI1 really is beautiful, but having never made a purchase this big or expensive, I want to get it right.....

On paper, I''d say the 2.08, if the stats are accurate.

You are going up a grade in color.

The 2.08 faces up a bit bigger.

GIA "Good" on the first stone isn''t very promising. The thin to very thick girdle and large table are both negatives.

However, who graded the second stone? Not GIA, right? THAT might make
me even more nervous. Maybe their E is a GIA G...etc.

I''d look for a GIA/AGS graded stone, excellent or ideal cut, and then go on to a visual inspection.

Find out who graded the E. (AGS? GIA? Someone else?)
I like the table of 55 on the E much better than the big 59 of the F.
I think the E should be a fireball.

Ask about inclusions.

I think I''d probably go for the E, and if I didn''t like it for some reason, return it for the F.

just my .02

Scintillating...

Thanks for all your info guys....

I should have probably added that they are at two different vendors....the F is at the jewellers that we are getting to set the stone - a very reputable jeweller in Sydney....and the E is from Diamond Exchange, which is why the diamond will take two weeks to get to OZ after we''ve purchased it....

I haven''t dealt with these guys before, and so while the stats look good on the E stone, I don''t know of any inclusions yet - but will ask if they can tell me today.

I really appreciate the feedback from this forum....being a novice at this sometimes just having a ''sounding board'' to share my concerns with is really appreciated.

cheers Nomissjane....

PS I''ll definately post the ring when it''s in my hot little hands....or finger!
