...and PSers are GREAT at opinions.
I'm designing my own engagement ring and wanted opinions on tweaks/how you'd do it, given some parameters. First, I prefer less-dainty jewelry (both for durability and aesthetics) - I'm a tallish gal, with biggish hands (ring size 6-6.5, which somehow I feel puts me in the 90th %ile for PSers
), and would like to wear this ring a LOT, without worrying about it beyond trying not to slam it against something. Second, at my job, I use alcohol-based hand sanitizer - usually with gross moisturizers in it - 30-100 times a day. It would gum up pave something bad, so that's right out; delicate little engraving details, too, which aren't really my style anyway. And third, I've always imagined a wedding band with little bezel-set diamonds sprinkled on it, like the Tiffany Etoile w-band, so it has to go with that.
Things I haven't yet nailed down:
-- The metal (leaning towards a whiter alloy of 18k WG, though saw a beautiful matte Pt-Ir band today that looked really pretty with my pink-undertoned skin...)
-- The diamond (modern RB, 7.5-8mm so 1.6-2ct, H-K SI1-2, with SBF/VSBF and a killer cut - not surprisingly, online inventories are a little limited when you get that specific, so I am OK to watch and wait for a month or two)
-- The person to cast/set the ring (went to a B&M store today in town that I liked - and they even had a J RB to show me! - but would also consider an e-retailer).
My inspiration is a pair of pearl earrings I love, set in a double bezel. Pretty simple. And the pearl is 8mm across; it makes a good stand-in for a diamond, so I know I like that scale on my hand. I've also liked James Meyer, Caleb Meyer, and JKT's work, as far as how the setting could look stylistically. And then... I used PowerPoint to draw some rings (to-scale with an 8mm stone on a 6.25 finger). I like C best right now, but don't know if having the culet all pointy toward my finger like that is a good idea. I like "B" least.
So... seeing the inspiration, the scale, and the ideas, what do you think? I know it's not going to be to everyone's taste, but after chewing it over myself for at least 10 months now, I'm really loving this general idea more and more. Anybody with rings in this style who has likes/dislikes to share about theirs and could provide guidance?
