Department store diamonds

Is it possible to find a quality ideal cut diamond sold by Finlay Enterprises in a department store such as Macy''s, Carlyle&Co, Baily Banks & Biddle? Or am I just wasting my time?

I went to all those places when I first started shopping for my engagement ring and I found the only thing is it cost more than if you get it wholesale.At first with the retail stores I was looking at 1ct centers which were going as high as 11 12 thousand in white gold and then I decided to shop for the band and stone separate wholesale, now I have been seeing 1.5 sometimes 1.6 and I can get a platinum band all for less than I would have spend at the retail, the only plus the retail stores gave was the 12 month financing. I don''t know this was just me, but I guess you''ll see the difference if you look more too. I am new here and the people here are really nice and recommended some good sites to get really nice diamonds from, whiteflash, jamesallen, theres a few more I think even bluenile has nice ones.

i''m new too but even b4 that I hated mall jewelers and I always thought department stores were even worse. but dont take it from a n00b like me, use the search tool and read up.. after a few weeks you will think you are a mini-gemologist!

What do you mean by wholesale? Online vendors?

Trust me I really don''t want to go with a mall jeweler, and I have done plenty of research which is why I''m very very hesitant to go for one of these diamonds. I just ran into an offer that I have to consider it.

well I'm new at this but wow have I learned a lot now..... after shopping at the retail stores I know I will so overpay so now I'm torn between reputable online like the whiteflash aca....etc or wholesale diamond jewelers that most of the time have offices or small store. I have found that these have much better quality for the money and you wont find the padding of bill like with retail. I'm even thinking of flying out to houston for one day to check out some diamonds at whiteflash!!! how cool is that lol

Just a quick note, anyone who sells to the public is a retailer, not a wholesaler. You will probably find the online vendors have extremely competitive prices so I would concentrate on those.
