So after some very helpful words from you folks on my previous diamond thread I finally settled on a 2ct Modern Cushion from the folks over at Good Old Gold. I pounced a bit late on the suggestions linked in that thread, but they were able to track me down another stone that fit the bill.

Here are some pictures:

My original plan was to have it set locally but after a stop into a couple local shops nothing really jumped out at me, so now I'm back to looking online for something that fits the bill.

While I haven't kept the lady in the loop during the shopping process, I do know one of her biggest 'concerns' is that the setting is too thick and not 'dainty' enough. I am looking for a nice, simple, thin/delicate, plain platinum solitaire ring. No halo, side stones, pave, or etching.

Right now I am heavily leaning towards a close variation on the Cartier 1895.

I like a couple options over at white flash. Including the Legato Sleek Line as well as the Fine Line Solitaire

Of the two I think I like the fine line better with the larger, more trapezoidal shaped spacing under the diamond. It seems to mimic the look of the Cartier a bit closer as well.

Any other suggestions or directions I should be looking?

I do like the basket style of the Legato, with the 'W' type shape. I have mostly been going on feedback I get from her sister, and that guidance generally goes something like "thin, thin, and thinner."

The Legato is listed as 1.35mm at the top widening to 2.5mm at the bottom. The Fine line starts at a slightly thicker 1.5mm but tapers to a fractionally thinner 2.3mm. Any idea which of the two would have the most slender appearance overall?

That Brian Gavin looks great, but at 2.2mm widening to 2.7mm it seems to be the thickest of the three, which worries me. For reference my girlfriends sister's ring measures 3mm at the top which my girlfriend would call "way too thick."

Also, if it makes any difference her finger is a size 6.

Thanks for the help!

I was looking into that exact setting a while ago. See my suggestions below. U-100 us my recommendation

Whiteflash and GOG are both preferred vendors for Vatche and they can request any model, even if not listed on their website. Just give them a ring to ask for prices.

Oh. Okay. She wants super thin.

That's easy enough. Though it will cost you a bit more.

You want a handforged setting. Not a CAD one. All of those are CAD, including the Vatche ones that pronto posted for you.

Handforged will allow you to get to 1.8 mm and still have the durability you need. I don't recommend ANY CAD and CAST setting at a shank width below 2.0. But handforged is different. Stronger.

Call/email Steven Kirsch and ask him for a cathedral solitaire in platinum with a shank of 1.8-2.0 mm similar in design to this one on his site:

That will be your best bet. You could also ask Engagement Rings Direct for their hand forged bench for a quote ( you have to specify handforged). And you can also ask Victor for a quote for this setting: http://www.victorcanera.com/jewelry/engagement-rings/solitaire-with-flush-stems....

:wavey:

Thanks - I've reached out to both Steven Kirsch and Victor Canera to see what they have to say.

As far as CAD options are concerned, any thoughts on the Vatche Venus? The Whiteflash rep I spoke to on the phone recommended it for a thinner type setting, but I don't see many threads or photos around talking about this specific setting.

It's gorgeous, but in the description is says for round shape diamonds. Might ask if it can be modified for a cushion.

Also Leon Mege has some gorgeous delicate looking solitaires.

I did send an email out to Leon Mege as well. I just feel a little reluctant to go with Leon, Victor, or Stephen since I imagine there is going to be a significant mark up over a more off the shelf product for a ring which seems pretty basic - a very slender solitaire.

The hand work seems worthwhile for a more intricate pave or more complicated design, but is it really worthwhile to try to get a hand crafted customized setting for a basic solitaire design?
