Decorating divas - help me find the perfect chair?

I've run into a problem, which is that my living room is simply too big. Proportionally. Or maybe my TV is too small. But anyway, my couch is too far from the TV and it's irritating. I don't want to get a new and bigger TV since I don't use it that often, but I would actually like to use it.

So one solution I'm considering is getting a chair that I can pull closer. However, I want the chair to 1) be comfy because I like curling up in chairs; and 2) still look good with the rest of my furniture.

I know there are great decorators on here, but anyone who wants to go on a furniture hunt for me, I would greatly appreciate it!

And if anyone has other suggestions aside from a chair, I'd be happy to hear them. Thank you!

What a cute place you have!!!

Where were you intending to put the chair? In that space between the couch, end table, and television, next to the A/C unit? I'm just not seeing much space for a chair with the current configuration :(

Actually, a friend suggested rotating the sectional so that the corner of the couch is by the bedroom door, partitioning off the dining and living rooms a bit, and then I can put a chair in front of the glass doors/curtains. Thoughts?

That was my other thought. I say move the couch into that configuration and then see what the room looks like (if you're looking for a fun project haha). I used to have an apartment with that exact layout (you're not in South Florida are you haha?) but it was in college before I had a grownup sectional couch.

Hi,

You couch is lovely. I would choose a larger TV because it may be less expensive than a chair, and you could move the other TV into the bedroom. You'd be surprised at the cost of a 42 " --$400.00. check around.

That's the direction I was going to actually suggest but I didn't know anything about their pricing. If a bigger TV is the not too much more than a chair, I'd just get the bigger TV so that your room isn't too full of furniture.

You could put a long table behind the sectional (The couple that operate the blog, "Young House Love," have one) and that will bring you into the room a little bit more. Not sure how much that would cut off the entrance into the patio. I also agree with a bigger tv and that's what I would do. Big, comfy chairs are probably more expensive that upgrading the tv and you can use the old one in your bedroom.

I was going to suggest the same thing. I'd move the couch away from the wall and further into the room, and I'd put a console table behind it. I do like the idea of getting a bigger TV (I think they're pretty reasonably priced), but I'd only buy one if you truly wanted one. I wouldn't buy one just to solve this problem, but as Hera said you could always move the TV you have now into the bedroom.

Thanks everyone! Ok, here is Iteration 2. After playing around with furniture arrangement...

I like the look from the front. TV stand was moved up a foot, the sectional about 2-3 feet. Much cozier, like the little nook it forms. However, what I don't like is that bare aisle between the sectional and the back wall (with my pictures on it). I want to do something so that it's not just so...bare.

Help?

My pictures keep coming out upside down! :(

Ok, iteration 2.5 - man, my arms hurt.

TV console table becomes decorative console behind couch.

Coffee table becomes TV stand.

Definitely need a rug now I think.

Oh B.E.G., I'm sorry but I don't like the TV on the coffee table at all. BUT, I do think that the tall table looks good behind the couch! Maybe get another entertainment center for the TV to go on that's taller than the coffee table, or else just basically get another one of those types of tables to put behind the couch.

No worries. I think I do want a separate TV console. I don't want to move the original one back - I didn't like how high the TV was, so putting the old table under the pictures isn't too bad. Then I guess I can move the coffee table back (once I get a new TV console!)

I'm thinking of something like these (especially because I want a back cover to hide cords):

How about if your entertainment set is moved to the picture wall, and your sectional is flipped around?

This thread is making me realize that I really need new furniture.

I agree, keep working on the furniture arrangement. Will it get in the way of the ac unit? The way you moved the sectional feels like it's now too much into the entrance and it doesn't feel grounded. Not sure a rug will help with that.

I thought you had a flat back to that sectional so I'm not sure that slanted back is working with the console table. Maybe place it right behind the sectional.

Btw, I would tell a client to buy a new tv.

Before moving furniture or buying anything, try http://www.floorplanner.com/ - you can do one room for free, I did our whole apartment because it was fairly easy. You need a measuring tape to do it accurately, but it's worth it. Then I was able to rearrange virtually, without much work.

To be honest, BEG, I think the sectional really closes in the living room when it was flipped. I think it looks great the way you had it originally, but I'd pull it out away from the wall with the pictures on it. I'd also put the console table right up against the back of the sectional.

Another thought (thinking out of the box) is that you could move the larger piece of the sectional forward (with the console table behind it), as suggested above, and then put the smaller piece in another room (bedroom or guest room). That way, the slider (french doors?) and air conditioning unit wouldn't be blocked.
