Hey all,

So in the quest for the perfect E-Ring, I'm getting really close to a decision, but need your thoughts.

I'm looking at a 4-stone E-Ring/5-stone Band Wedding Set from WF.

These are the pictures Chris from WF sent me of the set (white background) but they don't have any side pictures. Kindof annoyed...
And I just found another pair of pictures on PS of what appears to be a similar setting from WF (black background).

I was originally looking at this stone, but it sold before I received my last paycheck.
Whiteflash 0.907 Ct ACA

So now, I'm looking at this stone, but I'm not too sure about dipping to an 'H' color...
Whiteflash 0.912 Ct ACA

The E-Ring (as quoted by Chris) would have 4 - 0.13 ACA side stones.

Couple of questions:

1a. Would the 'H' be noticeable?
1b. Would it be better to wait for another one to come in?

2. Would the side stones be too large for the center stone?

Gah... I hate having a budget and having to setting for a less than perfect stone for a perfect woman... All advice is appreciated!

Hi RM,

You're hardly picking out a less than perfect stone here.

These are some of the best cut...

H in a finely cut stone will still face up very white. From the side, some very sensitive folks might notice something, but in this size (not that it's too small!, but easier to see in larger stones), I think you would probably be fine.

Waiting for this particular size could prove long, they don't come along every day. I'd go for it. It's a stunning diamond.

I don't think the side stones would be too big at all.

Thanks for the response :-)

So I'm still having trouble deciding... these are the two I'm looking at. Both are ACA.
Whiteflash Comparison

Diamond #1
----------
. Carat: 0.928
. Clarity: SI1
. Color: F
. Depth %: 61.1
. Table %: 57
. Measurements: 6.26-6.28X3.83
. HCA: 0.8

Diamond #2
----------
. Carat: 0.912
. Clarity: VS1
. Color: H
. Depth %: 61.6
. Table %: 55.9
. Measurements: 6.20-6.24X3.83
. HCA: 0.8

Tough choice.
#1 is tiny bit larger, with 2 steps better color, but 2 steps down clarity. Same HCA score.
I can't tell if #1 is eye clean though, it looks like it has a number of inclusions that are visible in the picture.

HELP!!!

Also, would it be unreasonable to ask for some better side pictures of the mounting? And should I have the diamond appraised as well, even though it's from WF?

Both gorgeous, I would firstly check with WF if the F SI is eyeclean. Then decide from there. There is certainly no harm in asking WF for some more pics of the mounting. Regarding the appraisal, some here don''t feel they need to when purchasing from WF and some of the other vendors, it depends on your comfort level!

I basically ditto Miss Lorelei. And add, since price difference isn''t a factor here, if the F is eyeclean, I''d personally go with that one!

With regard to your question #2 - my original set was a 1.51 center flanked by 6 .13 pointers. The wedding band had 7 .13 pointers. JMHO, but my center stone was definitely lost amongst the rest of the bling! I recently switched to a 1.73 center flanked by .10 pointers and this arrangement definitely showcases the center diamond more. I got a lot of compliments on the first ring, but it was really bugging me that my center stone seemed to blend in so much.

If possible, I would have WF set a .90 center in the setting and take some pics of both rings together before you decide.

Best wishes!

Or do a CAD moch-up to get the idea.

I think it is possible that your beautiful center stone will indeed get lost in the bling, so to speak. If that design is what your GF wants, then get her what she wants!! But if you aren''t sure, or she isn''t sure, then you may want to consider that with a center stone that size (which is great BTW! My ring is .80ct) you may find that the center stone looks bigger and is more eye-catching in either a simple three-stone with .20ct sides (like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/3Stone/-Trois-Brillant-_1031.htm) or in a setting with micre=pave (like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--with-Micro-Pave_1071.htm) or in a shared-prong setting (like this: http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/The--Legato--with-Shared-Prong_1058.htm)

The original ring you showed is beautiful, though, and WF has designers who can make suggestions about the size of the side stones for you. Just ask them to help you, they are very responsive.

Gah!!! Second time this has happened. Was just about ready to pull the trigger on the diamond, and it was sold. And WF doesn''t have any more ACAs in that size better than an H color.

Well, I managed to get a picture of the rings we saw at Jared''s (FF says any one of which is great), so here''s the pic of those.

Here''s the one I''m looking at getting through WF... if they ever get some more ACAs in... grrrr...

Rats for those stones being sold already. I hope you find another diamond soon.

Alright, hopefully this is the last stone I'll look at, opinions are welcomed :-)

0.9 Ct ACA

Carats: 0.900
Cut: ACA H&A
Color: F
Clarity: SI1

Depth %: 61.1
Table %: 57.9
Crown Angle: 34.7
Pavilion Angle: 40.7
Measurements: 6.21-6.23X3.80

HCA: 1.2 Ex-Ex-Ex-Vg

My biggest concern is definitely the inclusions... there seem to be a lot, but Chris @ WF says that the cloud is the only one visible from the side from certain angles, and other than that is eye-clean.

It looks great!

Here''s the ASET, I''m also a little concerned about the green section on the edge at the top.

ASET_AGS-9485702.jpg

I checked the IS image and that looks fine, I would contact WF about your concern with the ASET, it could well be fine and a result of the photograhy/ angling etc, but I would check with them to be sure, they will be completely honest if it is an issue!

Ditto. But seeing it made ACA, I''m not too worried.

I had our gemologist take a look at the ASET and Idealscope images. He informed me that the green color light bouncing off the sided of the diamond and the areas that you pointed out are nothing to out of the ordinary.
So here''s the response from Chris. I guess it''s ok, still nervous, don''t want to wait for August when prices are higher (or make GF wait that long), and at this point, neither WF or GOG have much in stock.

Well, think I should go for it? Should I ask any other questions?

You''ve asked about eyecleanliness, you''ve asked about the ASET, and you''ve asked our opinions. It''s one of the best cut, I think the only thing left is to ask yourself how you wanna pay for it.

Go for it, it''s ok!

Considering it is eyeclean I would reserve that sucker before it gets swooped out from underneath you :).

I have an H/SI1 and it rocks. And I swore I would never go below an F/VS2.

I love that setting, and no, I don't think it would be too much to ask for more side view photos.
