Hi all. I''m new to the forum and would like some advice. Whenever I am in the market for a new item, I enjoy doing research but this diamond-seeking adventure has got me quite confused. Life would have been a lot easier if my ex had given me back my grandmother''s diamond ring.

First of all, what is your opinion on looking for the ring with my intended or making it a surprise? I know that she likes white gold/platinum and I traced one of her rings to get the correct sizing . She has also expressed a fondness for sapphires so I was thinking of doing a three-stone ring.

In terms of the diamond itself, I have been thinking of an H&A, one carat, G-H range and VS2. I''m not sure if I''m incorrectly hung up on the VS2 because a lot of PSers have indicated that an eye-clean SI1 is perfectly acceptable. In terms of my diamond search I have been looking at the following diamonds and would appreciate some feedback:

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

JMHO, but if you are not certain of ring styles, I would rather be proposed to with a solitaire in a simple setting and be able to later choose my setting. If you''ve hung around these forums for a while, you''ve seen that a lot of us have gone around and around with settings before choosing!

As for the diamonds you''ve listed, I prefer the GOG stone for the slim arrows, but the Whiteflash stone is a beauty as well. Personally, I would stick with GOG or Whiteflash due to their upgrade policies and superb customer service. Nothing against Blue Nile, but I prefer the other two...

Ditto to all of the above! And I also prefer VS, so you don''t have to apologize for that!

Thanks for the advice. And I thought choosing a home theater was difficult.

I love that my honey is allowing me to have a say in the ring. Shopping with him has been great, and I know I will get the one "WE" love! It is a bit stressful, as he is 12 hours away for three weeks a month, but I look around when he is gone, to get an idea of what is out there.. In my opinion, I''m not in a big rush to actually get the ring, but knowing that one is coming is good enough. From what I have read here, it sometimes takes months to find "THE ring", so going this together might be the way to go.

I have learned tons of info. about diamond buying on this sight, and am glad that he did not just go out and buy a ring - we are looking for the right one in the right price range that we can both enjoy. The ring will be special to me, as I will wear it everyday, but it is also a chance for him to ''brag'' about what he bought me... and he wants it perfect!

Of course, every woman is different, so go with your gut about the ''surprise'' or the ''together shoping'' - whatever you think will make her happy.

A Day late...
