Hellooo everyone
35.gif

I called Dave Stone at Chubb today to ask about Insurance & I got his vm which stated he no longer participates in the Chubb Engagement Ring Program.

When I called some local agents, they said Chubb is very selective with who they''ll consider ("you''ll have a better shot if you switch your homeowners insurance to Chubb").

I know a lot of you have gotten the run-around but I thought Mr Stone wld be the ace in the hole, now I''m back to the drawing board... does anyone have any contacts at Chubb that still participate in the E-ring Program?

Not really thrilled w the idea of Jewelers Mutual but if I can''t find an agent from Chubb, I may have to... is there any other program that anyone recommends? Thank you!!

PS, my homeowners is Allstate & they wanted like $40/$1000 a few yrs ago so they''re out (I may have just spoken with the wrong agent tho?). I was told Chubb is approx $20/$1000 in my area, if they agree to insure you...

I just insured through Touchstone with a Chubb policy. Go to Whiteflash''s webpage and click on the link, ''Touchstone''. It was easy as. I rang and talked to David.

Why don''t you like jewelers mutual, if I may ask? I just insured my new diamond with them, but if there are issues with this company I''d like to know so I can research alternatives. Thanks!

ericad, I think the attraction with Chubb is that they offer a cash-out policy, i.e. they just cut you a check in the event of a loss. I had a policy with JM prior to Chubb, and I found them great to work with. Never made a claim though...

You''re very welcome! The other thing I liked is that I could insure for just what I paid for now, instead of some enormously inflated appraisal. I will keep that value up to date when I find an appraiser that will give me a realisitc internet based priced appraisal IYKWIM.

I too just insured with JM. I did it quickly b/c I was on vacation and my homeowner policy refused my request for a rider and the co. my agent suggested was even more $$$ than JM for the policy. Having said that, I never really read through the policy; I was just hot to get it insured so I could wear it and not worry. So tell me if you know: should one make a claim via JM, how do they handle it if not cutting you a check? Hopefully this will never happen but it''s insured against anything that could happen and I am paying a hefty premium for it. It''s appraised at about what Tiffany would charge for the stone and I thought it was standard, that the appraised value generally is a bit more than what you paid for it. Adjusting for inflation and so forth.

Anyone here made a claim with JM that they care to share?

Hoping it never happens but want to be informed just in case,

Yes, I''d like to know as well. I just wanted to insure it FAST, though I think my appraisal is accurate (from Ari @ singlestone, based on what he charges for comparable diamonds) but don''t want to have to jump through a million hoops in case of a claim. I can easily switch to Chubb or another company later, if they are better.

With Jewelers Mutual, you can go to the jeweler of your choice (in the U.S.). Usually, our insureds return to the jeweler who sold them the item or provided the insurance appraisal/evaluation. Our policy provides for the repair or replacement of your jewelry up to the policy limit (typically, the value on the insurance appraisal/evaluation). So, if you have a Tiffany's brand ring, the insurance evaluation/appraisal states that you have a Tiffany's brand ring, you'll get a Tiffany's brand ring if you've selected to work with Tiffany's or a jeweler that sells the Tiffany's brand.
