Ok, I''m a novice here and although I thought I knew what I was doing I''m a little confused.

I was looking (online)at a 1ct stone from DCDhttp://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=6859227

Now I ran it through the cut advisor.... if I enter the crown and pavilion angles, I get a score like 2.3... and all vgoods. If i put in the %s I get a score of 1.2 and mostly excelents.

Which is correct?

Also, I''ve been the one asking about buying shy... and was thinking about buying a "bargin" 1ct.. basically going with a nicely cut VS2 H-ish in color but non H&A...
GOG is right by my house, but alas does not seem to carry any "bargin" 1cts. I''m looking to spend around 5ish on the stone and I''d like to stay in the VS2 clarity. is this possible?

i did find a clearance stone in GOG, http://www.goodoldgold.com/round_1_23ct_h_vs2.htm

not sure if there is anything wrong with it... I can''t see the sarin, my comp is having problems.

not looking to buy today, just my always never ending quest.

These are NOOOOOOOO bargains at all. Even if I don't really know what is the lowest price for your specs, a 5 second search (first available option, front page of Pricescope) for a1 1 to 1.5 ct, G-H, VS2, already revealed lower prices for H&A. Give it a try! If the store is called 'DirtCheap' it does not mean they are a discount venue: they have a nice sense of humor

. And, by the way, SI1 would be just as eye clean, if the last C (cost)is quite important.

Bargain hunting for diamonds is not my second job, but some PS posters did it and survived. However, not looking for whatever is clearly advertised... does not make sense to me even if you happen to live near a nice shop we all enjoy here. Besides, I suspect that even GOG would have some more merchandise to fit your goals or could get the item you are looking for even if the thing is not online yet.

Regarding usage of angles versus percentages - angles are more accurate than percentages.

The numbers for the GOG diamond is as follow:

Total Depth - 58.3%
Table - 63.7%
Crown Angle - 30.9 degrees (30.0 - 32.6)
Pav Angle - 41.0 degrees (40.6 - 42.0)
Culet - 0.5%

HCA Score - 2.7 (VG/VG/G/Ex)

Chrisk327, Garry recommends using angles. Depth % depends on whether measurements were done from girdle valeys or bezel.

Crown and pavilion angles for this stone are just a tiny bit steep/deep which penilized by HCA. It is still very good cut diamond.

I understand there are no real bargins and I know DCD is just a name... what I was saying was I am thinking if I trade perfect optical symatry for size. ie: no H&A but still great cut.

I have done plenty searches, this post was mainly to find out whether I should be using angles or %s b.c I got different results
