I''ve been reviewing many website not to mention all the stores I''ve been to. Now that I''ve acquired a diamond I''ve changed my focus to settings.

I''ve tried picking and choosing different components and sharing them with the designer. Then I went into a store and realized the size ratio to her finger would be way off. Back to square 1 I go!

Does anyone have any advice on how to transfer your imagination to an online vendor (that you can''t speak with)? I''m not artistic (AT ALL!) and I''m having difficulty articulating my imagination. They''ve suggested hand drawings if that helps. If did that it would look like: O<
So, no it won''t help.

I''ve looked at pearlman''s who seem to have a tremendous inventory. I''m still having difficulty finding what I like. It seems like many jewellery designs are with in the same genre. What I mean is: Pave=x (roughly) - Solitaire=Y (approximately)- 3 stone=Z(somewhat). Most of the baskets, setting and shanks are the same or very similar.

Perhaps I''m being too picky. Perhaps I don''t understand the limitation of jewellery manufacturing.

Can anyone offer any thoughts?

there are certain ring styles that are very popular right now which is why you see them in a lot of jeweler''s inventory. Check out any Bride magazine an you will find plenty of the styles you mentioned.

What exactly are you wanting to incorporate into the ring? there are surely online vendors who can do custom but you really are going to need pictures to help them be able to bring your vision to life. Also, some idea''s are great in concept but can''t actually be made into a structurally sound piece of jewelry so you and the designer will have to work together to make sure the ring will be of high quality and last over time.

I am creative, yet I cannot envision or describe the ring I want without a picture of a real ring. So I feel your pain.

Take some time and read through all one million zillion pages in the SMTR eye candy folder. It may have some styles you will prefer.

Can you give us any hints at all of what you want? Poeple here can also help you to find something.

Thanks for your suggestions. I would have been back sooner but I was with the GF and definitely DO NOT want her to find pricescope until AFTER I propose!!!

I've gone through SMTR. There are some beautiful rings there.

I visit a custom jewellery shop and he showed me style of micro pave that I've never seen before. It was more like dust or chip pave. I really liked it and haven't been able to find it anywhere else. The micro pave I'm seeing is noticeably individual stones. The other looked almost powder like and it was VERY VERY elegant and sparkly. Has anyone seen this before?

Here's what I'm gravitating towards (and what I think she will like):
-Weighted Shank
-Four Prong basket without obstruction to the side of the diamond (eg: halo)
-Platinum
-Bezel with a single or double diamond under the basket.
-More of a square shank with large radii. I'm not found of the knife edge or complete round.
-I'd prefer to have something without a bridge so it doesn't sit too high.

She is a small girl. Her finger size is 4.75 and she has short fingers so I want to avoid anything too too wide in the shank.

Any thoughts, pictures, comments or idea would be greatly welcomed!

here''s another durnell from Pearlmans website: are these on the right track at all?

I''ve edited my original post to include:

I like the diamond underneath the basket. That is definitely what I am looking for (or something similar). I like the claws on that sample as well.
What about the micro micro-pave or dust type pave, have you found anything like that?

I''ve never heard of the dust type pave, at least under that name

Based on your description though I''d be worried about how the stones are set and how secure they will be in the setting. traditional pave needs to be crafted extremely well in order to hold up to daily wear and tear and even then it should be babied b/c one hard knock of the ring and a stone can come loose. So, dust type pave with even smaller, tiny chips of stones would lend itself to an even higher chance of stone loss. Have you looked at Ritani rings at all? they use tiny, tiny diamonds but they make one of the strongest most durable pave settings around. they will also make slight changes to a ring so if you find one that is close it would be worth looking into.

maybe something like this Ritani, but have them add pave to the shank of the ring??
