Is any jeweler makes sample( from sterling or cheap metal) before making final setting?
It's difficult to know what to expect from on-line buying ( picture and real looks totally different) I prefer to see design, measurement, how it look on my finger first. Has anyone done this( saw sample before final original)?

There is a vendor that will mail you sterling silver samples of their in stock settings, but I can't think of the vendor at the moment. I'm sure someone here knows and will post the name. However, I believe it's for in stock settings only and not for cads. It's a nice idea, but I don't know of any vendors that offer actual samples of cads.

If you need to try on designs before you buy, I suggest looking at designer settings that are of the style you are considering: Vatche, Verragio, Tacori, Simon G, and so on are carried by fine jewelers. When you find a design you like, then they will send your stone to the designer to have the setting made to fit your diamond and finger.
