Hi All,

I'll try to get a photo up when the sun comes back out.

Need advise about GIA 1.07 F Si2 Cushion with Very Strong Blue Fluorescence. It's a beautiful cut, measures about 7mm x 6 mm. Set in a classic white gold tapered cathedral setting. Looks gorgeous, lots of fire etc.

Today I took it outside to examine it in natural lighting, and I was shocked at what I saw. The diamond looks light blue to violet outdoors, but not all the time. Even indirect sunlight seems to bring out the blue hues of this diamond. Overall, I really like this unique quality.

Is this good or bad? What do people in the trade think of this characteristic?

Any ideas of what kind of wedding band I should choose to accentuate the unique trait?

Thank you very much for your insights!

I'm certainly no expert, but I think it's all about what you prefer. I believe that strong flour. is seen as a negative, hence the price per carat is lower (I could be wrong though). However, if YOU like the stone, to me, that's all that matters, as long as you're getting what you paid for....

I agree with Yenny. Some say it's a bad thing but there are people here on PS who love it! It sounds like a really cool effect to me as well. If you like it then I'd get it.

I have a stone with a strong blue fluor. and love it. When the light hits it right the colors that come off of my stone are just gorgeous. As long as you love the look, go for it. You can look up past threads on this subject. Many of us here on PS love them.

I too have a SBF stone and I love the glow it casts in the sunlight. Makes it more unique, IMHO.

Hi Capitola,
In days gone by, stones with this characteristic actually brought premium prices- because of the lovely blue cast that it brings.
Today, the internet has changed things- that is to say, people want to buy stones with no fluorescence- simply because they've read it's a detraction.
For his reason the price of stones with Strong blue, in F color- should trade at slightly lower prices than stones without .
If it's a J color- there's really no difference in price.
My advice- if the dealer is trustworthy, and the price comfortable for you- if you love this stone, don't let the myth deter you.
