Just about to pick up a cushion, but I would like a little feedback on this stone,

Here are the specs:

Cushion
1.17Ct
E
VS2
GIA
No Culet
Gd Sym
Gd Pol
Faint Floro
Width 6.15mm
Length 6.49
L/W 1.06
Total Depth 59.8% (3.68mm)
Pavillion depth 38% (2.34mm)
Crown Height 16.6% (1.02mm)
Table size 58.6% (3.6mm)
Girdle m-stk 5.2% 0.32mm
Culet off center 0.2% (W: 0.3%, L: 0.2%)
Table off center 0.01mm

$5502

Is this a good deal? Are there any of these specs that I sould be concerned with? Is it too shallow? Should I be concerned about the culet or table slightly off center, or is this a big deal. I''ve atatched an idealscope and a picture of the diamond....but i''m looking for some opinions! It will be set in a very nice, simple 4 prong platinum tiffany....

Comments please!

Thanks very much!

Normally I would say it was too shallow at 59. I tend to like a deeper cushion. However, you do have ample crown height, which is usually what''s lost in a shallow stone, so that''s a big plus, IMO. (I hate flat cushions).

Looking at the stone however, my concern would be fish eye. I am not an expert by any means, but that looks like it would have the fish eye effect to me. The center looks different than the rest of the stone.

Also, are you sure you need an E? I''d bump that down to a G/H/I in a heartbeat, and get a much bigger rock for your money. I would bet you would never be able to tell the difference between an E and a G.

Good luck!

I love cushions, but am no expert on them what so ever. I do see a fish eye in this diamond. I see it in the idealscope image and in the picture.

This fisheye effect, is this the whiter round center in the middle? Is this light leaking out? What is the danger of a fish eye?

Thanks!

I don''t think there is a danger, however, many people would consider fish eye stones less attractive.

Maybe the experts can comment on whether or not this stone is a fish eye. From these pictures it looks like one to me, and IMO, you can do better.

Here is more info:

The fish eye is that dead area in the center of the diamond. Not sure if there is any dnager with them, but they aren''t very pleasing to the eye. Hopefully the experts willl chime in and give you more information, and a proper definition.

I''m not an expert either, but I recently purchased a cushion. I can''t advise about the potential fish eye, but when I was looking for my stone, many people said not to rely heavily on the idealscope because it''s not so accurate for cushions. If the stone sparkles and looks good side-by-side to other cushions then trust your eyes.

The specs look great, and the spread is terrific. Even some larger stones have smaller length and width dimensions. As for dropping to a G and getting a bigger stone, I didn''t see any larger G VS2s with a similar l/w ratio and price on the Pricescope search. You are probably getting a bit of a discount due to the flourescence.

I recently purchased a cushion as well and was told about the scope pics may not always be accurate. The stone does have some obvious leakage to the naked eye.

Thanks for the replies....greatly appreciated....cutnut or oldminer, any comments?

Thanks

Have you looked at any other cushions???

I haven''t looked at any in person, unfortunately there is nothing available where I am, so i''ve been searching over the internet quite a bit. I''ve seen some good ones, one I was very interested in, but it turned out that the GIA stated no culet, but it had a very large one...and I don''t think my GF would like a visible culet in a cushion. I do like the shape though....

You will not have a bow tie problem with this stone

There''s no bow tie... and most cushions do have some "fish eye". A thick girdle helps. And the effect can barely be detected in that IScope picture as well. Not that this tool is not acurate - it is probably TOO acurate, making slight details into glaring color coded faults. Whatever shows ever so slightly under this ''scope it will like not show at all on a magnified photograph and definitely not at all in person.

This time, I have no reason to expect "fish eye" from that darling...

IMO, you scooped up a great stone !

It just so happens that the Ideal Scope has mostly been used on this forum to judge the perfection of the arrow pattern on H&A rounds. A very fine exercise in extreme hair splitting. This is a fancy cut, and the IS only shows brilliance. And lots of it for this diamonds.

Well, at least this is what I understand about the ''Scope. Garry''s the expert.

The page on fancy cuts on Ideal-Scope.com should help somewhat. There is no matching refference in the tutorial here

Its a good stone to my eyes, and sorry guys, I do not see any fisheye efect in this stone.

It looks like a decent diamond, and allways remember, in cushions there are no tools yet, if you love the way the diamond looks, then go with it.

To my eyes it looks like a good stone, and i understand that these type of cushions are getting scarcier!!!!
