Hi bakedalaska!

Firstly GIA are considered to grade more strictly than EGL, this page explains further.

http://diamonds.pricescope.com/grading.asp

If you do decide to go for the EGL diamond then make the sale final on it checking out to your satisfaction with an independant appraisal and get it in writing that you can return it within an agreed time for any reason.

https://www.pricescope.com/appr_list.aspx appraiser listing tool.

It is difficult to say much without images or more data on the proportions as not enough info, did you have a preference between them?

Thanks Lorelei. Yes my fiance-to-be and I somewhat preferred the second diamond. It was more of the "cushion" shape as opposed to square and obviously larger, but also cost a bit more. The major concern was the grading certification. The jeweler suggested that under GIA standards it was more like a G. Sorry about not having pictures, and thanks for the advice of getting an independent appraisal and return guarantee.

A lot of times when people post the stats on two diamonds it is to weed something out prior to viewing it but you''ve had the best tools put to the test here.... your eyes! As long as you think you are getting a fair deal - go with the one you prefer!
