Hi All,

I am long time reader of pricescope and after looking at all of your lovely diamonds, I have fallen in love with cushions! And in particular modified brilliant.

I have used the forum as my cushion shopping guide for the past few months and have narrowed it down to two diamonds (with the assistance of Martin from US Certs - a site recommended by several of my fellow Canadians on here). I know that cushions are hard to call based on numbers and certs, but I am hoping for your thoughts. I personally am in love with the stats of #1 but worried the feathers and ghosts will be easily seen.

Okay... here is the info...
1) $4700 US + CDN Taxes
Carat Weight 1.6
Color I
Clarity SI2
Depth 61.7
Table 60
Symmetry VG
Certificate GIA
Polish VG
Girdle M-TK
Culet N
Fluorescence N
Measurements 7.20x6.63x4.09

2) $5300 US + CDN Taxes
Carat Weight 1.51
Color H
Clarity SI2
Depth 70
Table 64
Symmetry G
Certificate GIA
Polish VG
Girdle TK-XTK
Culet NO
Fluorescence N
Measurements 6.14x6.06x4.24

ASET is best

#2 sounds pretty deep and faces up small.

Welcome!

Ditto Garry, we really need photos and ASET if you can get them.

Thank you for your insights!

Unfortunately, upon viewing the 1st diamond, Martin from US Certs confirmed my fears that the feathers and the needle were visible to the naked eye. Plus, the diamond has now been purchased. Diamond #2 is now on hold as someone else is interested in it. I had no idea cushions could move so quickly! In either case, I have decided to keep on searching.

I will definitely though ask for photos and ASET prior to purchase and post them up here!

You are most welcome and don''t worry - your cushion is out there waiting for you!

I guess it is Christmas and the diamonds are moving quickly. Since you are looking for a modified brillant cushion, it shouldn''t be that hard to find. Have you thought about broadening your net by going to Mark at ERD or GoodoldGold?

Hi All,

Okay so I think I have found the one. I have decided to compromise on the colour - it is a ''j'' but it looks fairly white to me - as I couldn''t find a eye-clean diamond in my price range with an I+ colour and my other requirements.

Let me know your thoughts (pretty pretty please).
Carat weight: 1.60
Cut: Ideal
Color: J
Clarity: VS1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 62.7%
Table: 54.0%
Polish: Very Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Medium to very thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 7.33*6.52*4.09
Ratio: 1.12

Oops. I really misjudged the sizing! Here is a small version of the above picture.

I think it looks nice, what do you think? A J may look a softer white, but I actually prefer these colour grades in a cushion.

I think it looks nice as well - in fact I''m absolutely in love with it. I think we are going to get it (just mulling over the setting). I figured while we were thinking about it I would post it up here to see if you experts had any thoughts/concerns about it.

Thank you for your help Lorelei!

Then thats your diamond!!! I look forward to seeing how you will set it!

And you are most welcome!

Looks great. Congrats on your new diamond.

I think it looks pretty good.

Beautiful. Love the faceting. And that is my favorite l/w ratio range (mine new cushion is 1.11)

Congratulations. Have fun setting shopping!!

Thank you everyone!

So I''ve told my BF that it''s the one I like and what kind of setting I''m looking for (upon convincing of one of my friends, we had decided it was better to shop together for the engagement ring, instead of hoping he gets something I like). Now I just have to wait for him to pop the question!
