Hi Everyone,
I''m starting my search for an engagement ring and just wanted to get a few basic questions answered. I know my future fiancee wants a square Cushion Cut diamond with micro pave diamonds around the stone. I do have a few questions though.

What''s the difference in Cushion Cut Brilliant and Cushion Modified Brilliant?

Is there a specific depth measurement that goes with the length/width ratio?

Just by a few facts, how do these specs sound?

a. 1.26ct f vs1 6.02x5.98x4.33 $6800
b. 1.24ct e vs1 6.03x5.94x4.09 $6450
c. 1.24ct f vs1 6.38x6.20x4.23 $6500

Item c: looks like it has a bigger top (table?) than the other two. Item a: is bigger and has a deeper depth. What is better?

How important is symmetry and polish, and should those stay as Very Good or Excellent?

How does the culet affect the look? Or florescence?

I hope these questions aren''t too redundant. Any tips will help!
Thanks.

Hi insearch, and welcome to Pricescope! Best subforum for you to get responses in is Rocky Talky. Please ask admin (just hit he msg admin button at the top right of the screen) to move this over there for ya! Best of luck!

insearch, there are numerous threads that can help you in making a cushion purchase. Simply use the search bar up top.

In my own experience buying a cushion several things are important. First off you need to decide what look you are going for. If you like the crushed ice look you want to go with a cushion modified. If you like more of a round cut stone sparkle then you want to go with a cushion brilliant. Dealers like GOG or ERD are great when it comes to locating the rarer cushion brilliants. Likewise, ERD won't even recommend anything except a cushion brilliant unless you specifically request a modified. As for the stats on my stone I went with a cushion brilliant with EX/EX on the polish and symmetry with no flourescence. I read a lot of comments and posts stating that the EX/EX is important as the general rule of thumb is that cushions don't sparkle as much as rounds so you need to make sure you get a cushion that is cut very well. As far as table and depth goes that's all subjective. I stayed to the rule of thumb that you want the table around the mid 50% range and a depth around the mid 60% range. The look I was going for is a little more rectangular than a perfect square cushion so my L/W ratio is about 1.13. I will post pics when I get the ring in hand for you to reference.

The one thing that I found most helpful in my diamond search is that it's best to go with an expert. It's simply too hard to pick a stone by yourself if you are not very well informed. If you want a cushion I would call EngagementRingsDirect and talk to Mark or Gary, both are great guys and they have a good relationship with a cutter who cuts cushion brilliants.

OH my gosh... How many hours do you have to just read and read and re read??? LOL There is so much to learn here, that honestly I wish I would have just called the experts (GOG & ERD) from the get go and left it to them!

Here is a thread that has been going on fro the past few day, and I think it should help with a lot of your questions. I would reccomend a few other threads but check that one out and let us know which look you prefer, as well as culet size, bowties, l:w, etc...
This page will help you with the l:w. Click on the oval shape and put the buldge factor all the way to 50% and you will get an idea of what you like real quick.

Check out this stone at GOG. It is a little more than the ones you posted, but they sure know how to pick em!

I have to run, but I''ll check back later to help as much as I can! Good Luck!!
