Cushion Cut Help Needed

Hi everyone!

I know this post is going to seem like a broken record, but i woud really appreciate any help and guidance on my search for a cushion cut. Ive read through countless posts and it seems negligent not to ask your opinions! Total price range is roughly 6500. As the single halo setting i like is 2200, that leaves 4300 for the diamond.

Like everyone attempting to impress their lady, im weighing the specs to get the largest diamond possible without sacrificing too much quality. I found a diamond below at bluenile and was hoping the experts could give me their two cents. I know the board recommends james allen over blue nile, but i was able to get a clarity and aset image (image attached) through a third party and the price seems great. Could the experts take a look at the clarity and aset image and tell me what they think?

The color is an f, but i wouldn't be opposed to dropping to an h for a larger diamond. Id prefer a large carat of course, but im not sure its in my price range and the sacrifice in color may not make enough difference to be worth it. Also, im worried about the ratio on this diamond as i prefer more of a square. As the below is a 1.1 ratio, do you think it would be noticeably rectangular in a single halo setting?

Lastly, i have the diamond on hold and blue nile will advise monday if its eye clean.

I think that diamond is fine other than I would not buy a diamond with multiple black inclusions, but honestly, I would be looking at G-H to try to get a larger one. 1.1 is more rectangular to me, so I would be trying for about 1.0-1.05 for a more square cushion look.

The only reason we recommend JA for modern cushions is that there's about 1 in 10-20 that is good, so being able to visually scan a large number of them is pretty helpful.

What setting do you like?

Thanks for the response! Ill be going with a setting similiar to the pic below. I was wondering if the halo would help with the diamond looking more square, but i understand the ratio you recommended would be better. I was/am highly considering the diamond posted above mainly because it was recommended to me (i have no idea on how to judge the cut). Blue nile just emailed me advising the diamond is eye clean. Do you still recommend avoiding the diamond due to the inclusions?

I've tried to do as much research as possible, but am still a novice in picking out a good cut. I found a diamond fitting my criteria on ja (link below). Could you take a look and tell me what you think? Is it a noticeable upgrade to the bluenile? I def like the icy look of an f diamond, but the diamond from james allen has a slightly bigger width. I guess im wondering if it would be a noticeable difference.

Any suggestions or a favorite? I really appreciate the help! This diamond search has been tough!

I think the shape and ratio of the one on James Allen is much better, and the cut looks pretty good. I am not wild about the inclusions, but it likely is eyeclean in real life viewing. They would tell you whether it is if you ask. You have the stone on hold?

I will look quickly and see if I see any others.

A possibility maybe to compare with the other one you have selected, but not quite as good. You can ask for ASET images (light return) for a max of 3 stones.

Overbudget but very nice: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.13-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-1126760

They have a nice platinum cushion halo setting for $1790, so you'd gain $400 more toward the diamond.

The diamond posted with the ASET, with all the green at the edges is going to look smaller than it's dimensions compared to a diamond with more red. That said, as you are setting it in a halo, it' will not be as noticeable.

Thank you both for your input!

Diamondseeker2006,

Thanks for the setting suggestion as it will definitely save me some money. Although it seems the diamonds on JA are more expensive than blue nile. Yes, I held the H diamond from JA and just received the asset image below. Can you tell me what you think? Love the G Diamond. It looks like it would be a very nice cut, but unfortunately it would be out of my price range.

Gypsy,

Thanks for the clarification on the asset image. In reference to their not being a noticeable difference, judging from the asset image below and the one provided earlier from blue nile, do you think the JA diamond would be a noticeable upgrade in size and ratio to make up for the decrease in color (From F to H)? Any other recommendations?

Lastly, 1 carat blue nile diamond appear to have similar length and width compared to 1.2 carats diamond at JA. However, the height measurement on the 1.2 carat on JA are noticeably larger. Does the height make that big of a difference when set in a halo? I'm just wondering if it's a better bang for your buck getting a larger w x l while sacrificing height.

Thanks everyone!

Im now leaning towards the H color diamond from nlue nile, but am not really sure about the aset image and especially the white spot in the middle. Could some with experience in resding aset imahes tell me what they think about the below?

I purchased it earlier today :(. Is it that bad? Maybe i should try and get a refund before they begin making the ring. My budget is 6k for everything. This diamond was 4100.

Not as bad as it could have been. It's a solid B.
