Hi I''m new to this forum. I''m in the market for a cushion cut engagement ring. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations or buying experiences they would like to share?

Thanks!

Welcome, Packrunner. You''ll find lots of info on cushions here. One tool that is really useful is the search function on the forums. There are many past posts that you will find on everything from cushion brilliants to antique cushions to the new August Cushion cut from Good Old Gold (a new stone cut to exacting standards that has big, chunky facets). Do a little browsing and you will find more info that you can imagine! There is also useful info under the "knowledge" section of PS.

There are several vendors here who get good reviews from PS''rs when it comes to cushions. Engagement Rings Direct and Good Old Gold come to mind and there are many others as well. Happy hunting!

I think one of the biggest questions with cushions will be whether you want a modern style, with smaller facets or an older style, with chunkier facets. I''d do some browsing around, look at pictures here, check out the (very informative and illustrative) videos on Good Old Gold''s website, and see what appeals to you most.

I love the August Vintage Cushion at Good Old Gold, it depends if you like he big chunky flashes of light or if you prefer the modern cushion. The GOG videos AmberGretchen suggests are a great way to compare to get an idea of what you like.

ChunkyCushionLover has a post that he frequently shares for newbies looking for a cushion. Unforunately, I am in a rush right now and don''t have time to look for it. The short of your decision ..

1. Modern of Chunky

If Modern,
a. 8 Main Cushion Brilliant
b. 4 Main Cushion Brilliant
c. Modified Cushion Brilliant (can be 4 or 8 main)
d. Patented Cut (ex. Square H&A, Cushette)

If Chunky,
a. Antique Stone
b. New Cut Chunky (ex. August Cushion)

Hi packrunner and welcome!

Buying a cushion can be quite complex so firstly the best thing you can do is to watch this video Consumers Guide to Buying a Cushion Cut Diamond as it will really help you. The video was made by an expert especially because buying a cushion can be challenging. As the video shows, one of the first things you need to do is to decide on the type of cushion you prefer, whether it is a chunky type as in the GOG August Vintage cushions, or more of a modern type. Jon at GOG has modern cushions also;

www.briangavindiamonds.com

Also Mark at www.engagementringsdirect.com has sourced some beautiful cushions.

i''ll be the first to vote for mark at ERD. he is an amazing person to work with! all the great things people say about him are very true. my fiance bought my modern cushion from him, and he just knows so much it''s ridiculous. he''s also very good at sourcing more vintage style cushions. once you start working with him, he always tries his best to make himself available to you, and he is very friendly and open to any and all questions. ERD also does great custom work too.
