Cushion Cut Diamond Question

I've been looking at the following diamond from a local jeweler my family has been going to for a while and had some questions. My first question is why does the GIA cert not show a cut grade? It's a GIA 1.40 H SI1 . I've seen this diamond in person and looks great and compared to another one of the same size and color but VS1 vs this SI1 and I could not tell the difference. Jeweler says its a great stone and is eye clean, it looks eye clean to me and to my step father as well. Jeweler is asking $6,000 is this a reasonable price?

GIA Cert: http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?reportno=5171641954&c=Page&childpagename=GIA%2FPage%2FReportCheck&pagename=GIA%2FDispatcher&cid=1355954554547&encryptedString=FDF5942AC862B529819A56BD329F11F0

Thanks!

The GIA cert for my cushion also does not list a cut grade. I believe GIA does not issue cut grades for fancy cut diamonds - just round brilliants.

Eye clean is similar to "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," meaning eye clean for you is what matters. Some people like eye clean at 10 inches away, some like it at 6 inches away. If you like it, then it works.

As for pricing, I suggest comparing it to prices in PS's Diamond Search under Resources (above). Check that brick & mortar price against the online store prices. It never hurts to have tools for comparisons.

GIA does not do a cut grade for cushions. There is no standard cut pattern for cushions, so they cannot be evaluated by proportions alone, which is how GIA does cuts.

AGS uses a computer model to predict light performance, so they can theoretically grade any cut pattern.

Ive been on the hunt for a cushion too. Im pretty sure from my reading on PS, that this diamond would be considered a crushed ice cushion. Gypsy, correct me if Im wrong?

Am I missing a faceting plot?

If you download the PDF it has one. No guarantee from the plot shown that it is or is not a "crushed ice" though.

Thanks. It is impossible to say with out image for sure, but yes that one could be crushed ice faceting. But it is not the most common crushed ice plot, so there is a chance it is not.

was that setting made for that specific stone?

Looking at this, it doesn't look like it was. The stone is sitting way high in the setting. Is that what you wanted?

The diamond was not set in the ring yet, it was just placed on the ring to get and idea of how it would look.

I know it wasn't set. My point was, if this setting was made for this stone, it should fit much better in the setting even if it is not formally notched and set.
