Hi Diamond People, I am new to this board, very informative!! I know this topic has probably been beat to death, but I just purchased a 1.01, cushion cut, D color, SI2, good cut, no florescence. I don''t have all the measurements written down, but my concern lies with the depth. The depth is 51%, so the diamond is spread out more and almost looks like a 1.25. Total cost of the diamond is $5,000. The diamond itself looks absolutely gorgeous but I have 3 questions below:

1. Is 51% too shallow - what are the consequences if so?

2. Is a 1.01 cushion cut large enough?

3. Does $5,000 sound like the correct price given the characteristics above?

The consequences of a shallow diamond may result in decreased light return. Something in the mid 60''s to low 70''s would be more appropriate but that is just the beginning of the puzzle, you really need to see the diamond in order to make an accurate judgement regarding how it is cut.

Thanks - so if I saw the diamond with my own eyes, and it looked great, then 51% is no problem?

DM you and your eyes are the important variable.

The stone may die if you look at it from too close up (your head blocks too much light on shallow stones.
If you want to know more read the newsletters on www.ideal-scope.com

But from depth alone we can offer no real help.
We need corner to corner dimensions, side to side, crown and pav angle table etc.
