I'm sure it great. Have you reserved it yet with good old gold.

I have yes. I didn't want to make the purchase though until I got the opinions of the rocky talk community.

do you have the link?

ASET standards is high but not the best that I had seen from Good Old Gold.

i thought it was that one... i love it. good color, great clarity, great price sense it isnt a AVC,and they that test to grade light performance and seems to do great.

how do you plan on setting it?

Thank you for the feedback. This has been such a long process - I feel very lucky to have stumbled upon such a great looking stone. We haven't completely decided. Most likely a cathedral solitaire, but possible a cushion halo with a blank band. (unsure the actual name)

Something like this.

that would be called a plain shank halo.

that is actually just about my favorite setting! That would be too pretty!

If youre open to ideas, ritani makes a split plain shank halo that looks sooooo pretty. Ritani makes a great product (i used to have one myself) and its a pretty good price. I think it would be pretty in all white metal, or to be more interesting, you could do the halo in white metal but the shank something different (just an idea. I think this setting would be just prefect for that two tone idea, so i would love to see someone do it. but of course, im just full of ideas, dont have to take one)

lots of jewelers sell them so you might have one in your local area. Also, a company many people have used here called pearlmans sells ritani too, and i think they offer a pricescope discount

That is gorgeous! My goal is to get a feel for what she likes and then surprise her with something unique in the same... 'genre' for lack of a better word. If she decides the halo is the way she wants to go, this would be the perfect choice to help me do that! Thank you very much Niel, for both the suggestion and your advice and knowledge on the stone; I feel 100 times more confident moving forward with the purchase!

Im a pretty big proponent of plain shank halos myself. They add a lot of "girth" to the stone to make it look nice and big. The plain shank keeps its still looking like a solitaire. Plus, being a plain shank keeps the price down, but also lets you pair more types of bands with it. A diamond shank really mostly lends itself to matching bands, but a plain shank? that can match with a diamond w band, a plain one, engraved, colored stone, all sorts of things.

so like i said, i find them to be one of the more practical settings for stones that size. as you can see

with that said, i think its a GREAT idea to figure out her style and set it the way she likes. Does she by chance have a pinterest? i dont know if shes in the age group that would, but if she does, ladies usually pin rings in there. ;)

however you set it,Id feel pretty comfortable with that stone i think its really really pretty, and GOG does so many tests, clearly it looks like a winner.

I love a plain shank halo ering with a diamond wedding band.

Great cushion...she will love it!

I agree, it is a very nice cushion and I also vote for a halo if she likes that idea!

Thank you everyone for the input!

Niel, I suggested the pinterest idea last night, it was a big hit! lol Hopefully we can get it narrowed down here in the next couple of weeks. I'm aiming for early July so... the sooner the better!

so are you just getting the stone home and then sending out to be set once you figure it out?

That is the plan. I've been looking at palladium settings: I hear great things about it.Its tough to find jewelers who work with it though.

So its for sure going to be a white metal? i wouldnt go with palladium if you can avoid it. 14k gold is very white and doesnt need to be rhodium plated, my pear i used to have was never rhodium plated and it the metal always looked lovely. Ive heard its not a very good metal to work with, palladium.

White Gold is interesting. Price wise it's actually less expensive than palladium but i didn't think it as hard. Did you have any problem with yours scratching?

It got a patina like platinum, but no ring is going to stay pristine. Plus, I do believe because less gold is used in 14k than 18k, 14k gold is stronger.
