Hi All,

I''ve been looking at cushion cut stones online and was wondering what you guys thought about an "I" color stone - from what I''ve read thus far an ideal/very good cut stone, even though an I, is still pretty decent. However, when I spoke to one of the local dealers here yesterday he recommended that I do not buy anything below an H in a fancy cut stone.

I''ve found a couple of stones on jamesallen (Item 1236259) and diamonddirect that, at least in pictures, look very nice. However, its difficult to judge the color from pictures. What do you guys think?

Thanks!!

A reliably graded I colour can be a super choice, will still be very white in most shapes ( although perhaps not the icy white of the colourless grades). I normally advise with radiants to make H colour the cut off as these shapes can show more colour than others unless one has viewed lower colour grades in person with radiants, however it all boils down to personal preference - in a cushions I think an I colour can be beautiful. So yes I believe you can definitely consider an I colour, if you want to post the details and images of the diamonds if you don't want to post the actual links then we can take a look for you. Are these the type of cushion you are looking for?

Hi Slutfi
I asked about an "L" colour cushion in this thread:

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/comments-on-this-gog-chunky-cushion.119435/

and it got the "thumbs up" from the helpful posters. Some even said that they had a preference for the warmer colours in a cushion cut. Having said that, that stone was noted by the vendor to be a very good "L".

An "I" is a lot farther up the colour scale and IMO it will be fine, especially with some fluorescence. Would you consider that you are particularly colour sensitive? I guess it depends on priorities, I would sacrifice some colour grades in favour of a better cut and weight ....

the cut determines how much color can show also. back when I was looking I can across J''s that faced up white. My suggestion is to try and see some in person, don''t have the vendor tell you which are which color, and see if you can judge which have a lower color grade in person.

Remember too that color is most strong when viewed from the side.

Thank you both for being so helpful!! Here is a picture of one of the stones I really like. Please let me know what you guys think!

To be honest I am not loving this one....

And you are most welcome!

My cushion is an I (see avatar) and it faces up very white.

Anything in particular Lorelei?

Also, I''m looking to place this in a Harry Winston micropave replica setting. Do you guys think that a 2 carat stone is big enough to capture the look, even though I''m sure the stone in the ring pictured on the website is much larger?

Is your reservation based on the depth Lorelei?
Slutfi I think we''re after similar stones - its not easy but I think perseverance helps and eventually (I''m told) you find The One.

Its the overall appearance of the diamond from what I can see in the pic - to be fair it could be a far better looking diamond than the pic represents, it just looks unexciting to me so far....An idealscope image though would really help and it would be great to have the crown height if JA could run a Sarin on the diamond to get this info.
