I have a gorgeous e-ring but I am not sure whether or not to get a curved band. I am torn between a diamond curved wedding band and a regular diamond wedding band. Does anyone think the curved band will take away from the e-ring?

I''ve attached a pic of your e-ring so maybe you''ll get more responses...

Hi Daisi,

I''m not personally crazy about curved bands, but I don''t think it will necessarily take away from the ering.

Do you plan to ever wear the wedding band on its own? Or do you at least want the option? If so, I would go with a straight band.

I''m curious. Why would you want a curved band? Would a straight band not sit flush with your e-ring?

I prefer straight bands, because I find them more versatile.

Curved bands look great when worn together with the e-ring.
However, choose to wear the band by itself and now the hallmark becomes a liability, since the concavity looks like somebody took a bite out of your ring....

If you''re gonna go the curved band route, make sure you are gonna be wearing it with your e-ring all of the time.

Best,

I''d go with a straight band. I agree with the others who said the curved band is fine if you are always going to wear it with your wedding band but you can''t really wear it by itself if the need would ever arise.

I prefer straight bands. I like to wear my band alone at times and think a curved one would look odd by itself. I don''t mind a space between my ering and wedding band.

It's probably also prudent to tell you that even with your curved band, there will possibly be a slight gap between the two rings. This is inevitable in many instances.

Best,

curious to hear a few more details about the ring...i am in the process of picking out an engagement ring and its very similar to that i think.

are those prong set diamonds on the band-- cant quite tell from the picture. if so-- how many did you go with on each side and what size is each of the diamonds.

also- just for perspective- what ring size are you-- and what is the size of the center stone?

extra pictures woulc be great as well--- its soooo hard to describe what i want to the jeweler

thanks so much

Go with what makes your heart sing - but I do agree with others that a straight band will be easier to wear on its own if you just want to wear a band sometimes.

I love curved bands since big gaps tend to bother me a lot. If a gap bothers you, get a curved band (and if you want to wear the band alone, just turn it around on your finger so the curve is on the palm side). I was going to get a curved band, but then the one I really liked happened to be straight, and it fits almost flush, so I can live with that.

If it will sit flush or nearly so, I think a straight band would look better.

Thank you everyone for your opinion! Yes, the diamond is low set, so a regular band won''t sit flush. Tkatuw, center diamond is 1.51 carats (I am a size 6.5 finger) and it''s an E VS2. Off the top of my head, I believe I have 16 diamonds on the band, I think they are beaded set. The smaller ones add up to 0.29 carats G VS.

My concern with having a band that is not flush with the ring, is having the diamonds on the wedding band scratch into the e-ring, or vice versa. The ring is made out of platinum, but I hear stories about how diamonds can start cutting into prongs when rubbed next to another ring

only if you have a shared prong band would you have the potential of diamonds eating into the e-ring band. If you get a bead set band you wouldn''t have a problem at all.

Sorry to ask this question! But, what is a shared prong band??? I think my e-ring band is beaded... it could be pronged...

Gorgeous E-ring!!!! I would pick a straight band. It will give you more flexibility wearing it with other rings or by itself.

here's a picture of a shared prong band..there are 2 prongs in between each diamond. the girdles (sides of the diamonds) are exposed which is what can eat away at a ring sitting next to it.

here's a picture of demelza's old set

hard to tell exactly from the pic but your ring does appear to be bead set.

The diamonds in the band have 4 prongs on each side but the girdles are not exposed. Does this picture help to see them better?

straight band but just my opinion - very pretty ring - congrats!

I would go with a straight band -- or two! -- so you can wear the wedding ring on its own.

Curved bands look funky -- to my eyes -- when worn alone.

When there are metal sides beside the stones, then that is not shared prong. Shared prong rings have the diamonds open to the side with no metal enclosing them. Yours looks bead set. You just need to get a wedding band made exactly like your e-ring and there won''t be a problem. I actually love a tiny gap so you can see that there are two rings as opposed to the look of one wide ring when they are stuck together! I would not choose a curved band, personally.

It would not take away from the ER if you had a custom matched curved band. I love that look, and it''s what I have (biased, I know). However, it is very true that you can''t really wear a curved wedding band alone, it just looks insignificant and odd. If the prongs on the ER are going to be a problem with a straight band (mine would be), then I''d definitely consider going custom. Otherwise, I agree with others who think a straight band is more versatile and more wearable on it''s own.

daisi, my reset looks very much like your e-ring, so i''ve been having the same questions, i was thinking about a curved band as well, but don''t think i want to wear it on its own, i tried putting my old straight band next to it and it sat practically flush, slight gap, i would go with the straight band, but it''s entirely up to you :)

are you also concerned about the possible wear and tear on the basket from the band?

I have a curved band that was made to match my e-ring - a straight band just looked terrible with the split shank on mine.

However, I hate the look of a curved band on it''s own - so I got married with 2 wedding bands...

The curved band that I wear with my e-ring, and an antique 22k gold band from 1908 that I wear when I just wear a band. I like having two completely different rings - one very classic and the other more individual to me.

It was important to me that I was married with both though.
