Leslieann''s post about the alternative dress inspired me, and I didn''t want to threadjack.

Does anyone know anything about crinoline for mermaids? I think I want one to make the bottom of my dress lay better and poofier, but I don''t know which one.

This website has 2 different ones...

http://www.advantagebridal.com/brandfosland.html

If you scroll down to the bottom, you see one that is more flaired out, and another one that is more like a bubble at the bottom. Do any of you guys know which one would be better for mermaid? Have any of you ladies used one for a mermaid dress?

Thanks in advance!!!

I don't kow if my dress wold be considered a mermaid but I had to get a crinoline slip to fill out the bottom.

My slip (bought at Pronovias) looks like this one http://www.advantagebridal.com/newmermaidslip.html and I think it gives my dress the perfect amount of poof.

Can you post a photo of your dress?

I''m going to try my hand in sewing one. I bought a yard of netting material and figured out how to gather it, so now i just need to get a slip to attach everything to.

PSA for anyone who wants to sew their own, you''ll need a LOT of netting. I only bought 1 yd of netting for experimenting and it only goes 1/2 around my legs for just one tier. As I get closer to starting alterations, I''m going to buy 6 yds and try again.

Never mind, I went through your old posts and found a photo of your dress. Love it! It looks beautiful.

I think both crinolines would work; just depends on whether you want a more obvious mermaid look. If yes, the flaired out one would work best, I think.

FYI, for those making their own, my slip/crinoline comes with a plastic ''hoop'' that is fed into the hem of the slip to help keep the shape of the poof. Hope that makes sense. I think without the hoop, the dress would just weigh down the crinoline.

Thanks so much CDN! Do you have pics of your dress with it? (or without it to see the difference) I''m in the middle of class and tried searching for yours, but it''s taking too long. Good hints for those who are DYI''ing.

Hey Lanie,

here's my dress thread. I think the best photo that shows how the slip/crinoline fills out the bottom is the photo with the longer veil (towards the bottom). I don't have any photos of the dress without the crinoline.

Now that I think about it, your dress would look great with the more flared out look. I think mine suits a more subtle 'poof' but your dress is so va-va-voom I think it warrants some more drama, you know what I mean?

Beautiful! Now I remember seeing your dress. My dress is La Sposa and yours is the same company!!! I love yours as well. You are right, the best photo of the "pouf" is the long veil one. (By the by, I like your shorter veil better!).

Thanks for the photo!!! I''m definitely getting one now...can''t hurt.

I knew there was a reason I loved your dress! They make such beautiful gowns.

You''re right; it can''t hurt. I definitely think it''ll help fill out the bottom nicely.

I don''t know why I have this photo but it shows the plastic hoop at the bottom of the slip/crinoline. I don''t know if the more flared ones would have something like this....
