Hello Everyone,

I am in the market to buy an engagement ring, but I am currently constrained by the following factors: 1) she is in love with princess cut diamonds, 2) the bigger the better, & 3) a limited spending budget. I have currently built up my acceptable spending allowance to between $6,000 - $6,500, and I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a good looking princess cut diamond in a solitaire setting while still staying within this price range. So far from what I have seen online I have only been able to find 1.0 - 1.3 carat diamonds, but I really would like to find something in the 1.3- 1.5 carat range. I am going to a local jeweler (friend of the family) to see what type of deal they can give me, but I have a limited knowledge of diamonds, so I was wondering if someone could provide some guidance.

Thanks,

Jmattes

Don't go to the 'friend of the family' yet. Put it off for at least a week... can't tell you how many bad 'friend of the family' stories we've had on here.

Please use this website to educate yourself on the importance of cut, color, clarity and certifications, appraisals... on prices and on metals before you go anywhere.

Your friend will likely bad mouth the internet and you knowledge. But it's best to go in armed. Trust us. Please. We have no stake, get no money or kickbacks or any kind of incentive for helping people out. We are just hobbyists looking to help consumers make good decisions.

In the meantime, while you get educated. I'm going to suggest you call Eternity Diamonds and ID Jewelry Online and ask them for an "AGS 0" princess diamond in the 1.4 carat range H-I color and eyeclean SI clarity in a simple white gold four prong setting and see what they can do for you. Ask for the certificate numbers of the stones.
