Has anyone purchased an engagement ring from cooldiamonds.com ?

My friend who is no longer engaged is offering me his ring for $18,000 - He paid 44K for it 8 months ago.

The ring has a 2.5c Center Stone and 1 pear diamond on each side weighing .50c, totaling 3.5c. The actual ring is Platinum. All diamonds are E - VVS2.

Alternatively,

I was also thinking about buying a new Tiffany Novo for 1.33c. The specs are G VVS2. The price is 15,500

A few questions for everyone:

1. If you are a women: would you like a ring that was meant for anther women? or feel uncomfortable wearing it?
2. Has anyone heard anything about Cool Diamonds?
3. Do you think a 3.5 ring is absurd?
4. any other advise would be greatly appreciated.

Personally, I like the Tiffany Novo ... And it would be from ME.

Thanks for your help - I greatly appreciate it!

Don't forget any "new" diamond you buy may have been worn by another woman too.

Diamonds are forever, and nobody throws them away when a marriage or a life ends.
We've asked vendors here and they say they can't guarantee that every stone in their inventory has never been preowned.
Who cares? They are billions of years old anyway.

I'd look into that $44K E VVS2 ring for $18K.
Even if it is a poor cut you could get it re-polished and still get a killer deal. - plus you just might polish away the VVS2 inclusions and get a VVS1 or IF out of it.

Plus since there's no guarantee a new stone was never worn before at least you know this one was from a nice person.

Ditto what Moh said. Could be a great deal. Many diamonds are pre-owned and you would never know. There's a market for antique stones that definitely have former lives!

No, 3.5 is not absurd if you are comfortable with the size!

Diamonds get recycled but the whole setting with stone is not something most women would want. Personally I wouldn't want someone else's engagement ring unless I knew about it and loved the style.

Oh gosh yes, if you are getting a $44K ring for $18K just sell the setting for whatever you cant get on eBay, or even for scrap.

I personally don''t have a problem with second hand jewelery. I say go for the gold! Get the most for your money!

according to which lab report ??

If I had the certification from a trustworthy lab confimaing the specs, AND I knew that the cut was great on the first ring, I''d go for that one. But I wouldn''t buy it without looking into the cut quality first.

That''s an excellent price even if the color and clarity are off by a few grades. I would only worry about the cut.
