A couple of years ago some dear friends broke up their engagement. They are still friends and he gifted her the engagement ring, a round diamond in a simple setting. Neither my friend nor her ex-fiance have paperwork on the diamond. She's in need of funds and wants to consign or sell her diamond outright. I suggested Good Old Gold, knowing they would be able to perform a thorough evaluation to help her determine what she's got on her hands. However, our schedules won't permit the planned for weekend trip to GOG. But I could meet her after work and take her to a trusted vendor/consignment place in Manhattan.
Can anyone make recommend a vendor who consigns diamonds and would be able to adequately test the stone for its stats? Or should she send it to GIA? It's probably 3/4 to 1 ct.
