Thank you everyone for pointing me in the direction of August vintage. I wanted to start a clean thread And ask for opinions . I am seriously considering this 2.41 oval https://www.augustvintageinc.net/co...ucts/2-41ct-h-si1-august-vintage-oval-1670852

Of course it’s a smaller spread and a lower color grade than I wanted (we were looking at at least GSI1 and 10x7 ish . But considering the fact that it seems you can go lower in color grade with AVs oval opulence - and I will be getting more sparkle and less dull - it sounds worth it to sacrifice spread and color in this case . Would love your thoughts ! My poor bf wanted to propose months ago but I’ve looked at hundreds of diamonds and haven’t found the perfect one yet - I have a good feeling about this !!!! Not to mention I swear I could be a gemologist by now Thanks y’all , look forward to your honest opinions !. Love from boston

Hi from another fellow Bostonian! Honestly, the diamond that you are considering is amazing! The opulence ovals are unlike anything else you can possibly see in stores and even online! Not to mention that Jon is probably one of the nicest people you can do business with. The diamond’s performance is incomparable to 99% percent of the ovals on the market. H color will be very white for this oval because it doesn’t have the typical N/S retention of color that is commonly observed with ovals. Also, this is a very eye-clean SI1 - a great find! I am super excited for this oval and I don’t think you should make your bf wait any longer to propose :)

Hello friend thank you so very much for taking the time to write me this message and give your honest opinion !!! It feels like it’s going to be the one . Still need to discuss with the BF and see in person ! Many thanks !!!!

I just saw the stone on AV IG Page - it is so pretty! I hope that it is the one for you! Do you know how you might want to set it?

that's my goal!!! Yes i saw jon post that earlier - i had my notifications ready and was the first to view it!! :) thank you so much for sharing. I think this is really the one - I have that same feeling I got when I met my future hub so i'm taking that as a sign!

It will be such a light show in that setting! Just for fun, here’s the video off IG https://instagram.com/p/Bf3s3fQhJsS/ :appl::lickout:

That Opulence Oval is stunning. I actually love the H color and think it would be a great choice.

How about this for a bligtastic option? By Victor Canera.

Not sure if VC will work with Opulence Ovals..maybe someone would know, but it’s probably best just to ask Victor himself.

OP
If you want a Halo......the go to PS vendors are Victor Canera in LA, Steven Kirsch in NYC and Brilliantly Engaged also in NYC, they all do beautiful work and I think safe to say pricing in that order. As I have stated on many posts/threads, the avatar is my wife's ring set in the single halo from Chris at BE. I have posted other pictures on threads so wont do it here again, unless you request. Good luck.

Quick edit: wife's ring is a round center stone, I am sure that the above vendors can and have done their work with ovals.

One more edit: OP saw your link to the AVC, WOW!!! Break out the sunglasses.

I was able to look at one of these ovals in person and the sparkle is so much more uniform than other ovals. The faceting is different from other ovals as well— check out the grading reports. You don’t get that watery crushed ice effect at the ends that most ovals have, and they look a lot more like elongated MRBs. You are also correct that they hide color better than other ovals (in the same way that round brilliants do). The only real downside to these is that they are cut very deep and the spread is nowhere near other ovals of the same carat weight. So, for example, I was looking at 2 carat ovals, but when I saw the opulence I realized that I would need a 2.4-2.5 carat oval to get a similar spread.

In case it’s helpful, here is a photo of the most well cut oval that I found in my diamond search (before the opulence ovals came out- a 2.2 G color with no bow tie) next to a photo that I took of the opulence oval (a 2.0 F color). Personally, I preferred the look of the opulence and I would go for the opulence as long as you are OK with the spread and like the proportions of the stone.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and photos. I think both photos are equally stunning. The 2.41 I am looking at is spread similar to a 1-7 to 1.8 :( ... The more I think about it - I am having a really hard time with that haha! Definitely need to think about it more!! I so appreciate this thank yoU!

Thank you so much for sharing the video - it's a gorgeous setting !! i do tend to not be so much of a filigree person but my gosh it's stunning!

@SimoneDi i mean it's simply stunning and absolutely perfect. my ONLY hesitation is that this is my engagement ring - and i know this sounds a little woo but i'm very sensitive to pre-owned things on an energetic level. but my gosh it is a freakin stunner!!!!!!

If this is any help, I used to think exactly like you until I ended up with a preowned engagement ring. I sadly no longer have that ring, but I really loved it and after a very short period of time, I stopped caring that it had once belonged to a someone else. Not trying to influence your decision however! And yes that ring is absolutely stunning! What ring size are you?

Thank you so much for sharing that :) I am 4 3/4 ! :)

I know it is pre-owned, but could be a great price overall.
Hey, its not that the diamond is new, it has been sitting in the earth before it was plucked out for millions of years, therefore, its old, ha ha.

One more thought on above pre-loved ring, if you really like it and come to a good price with the seller, you could always send it back to SK for its day at the spa.....he will check all prongs, pave, etc and polish it, buff it.....it will look like new!
I have never bought from him, but his reviews for halo work are stellar.

Yes - it's absolutely stunning & I am so grateful for your feedback and thoughts. But I can say with 100% certainty I would never buy a pre-owned diamond or ring to have as my engagement ring. I hope this makes sense and thank you!

I am afraid that OPs ring size is much smaller, I am not sure if she will be able to resize down as much. I love SKs work and he is super nice to deal with, very easy going and always prompt in communication. He created a beautiful halo for my friend.

Good point Simone, I guess the OP will have to ask if it can be resized for her. Also I notice on the finished product it has a double halo, I like single halos, but that is me......wonder if OP likes that look. Also, pave is on the cathedral and donut....again this is my taste, I would not do that because when you are looking at the ring at most angles, you don't see those diamonds, but that is my taste.
