Hi all!

My boyfriend and I are planning to get engaged- yay! I am interested in an elongated cushion cut. I am open minded to either modern or old mine cuts but am wondering where we should set our budget for either. A few things to consider:

1) I am NOT color sensitive- I saw a K colored stone recently in person and am fine with it.
2) i have to mind clean issues with clarity, so long as it's eye clean
3) I do care about cut and would like an elongated shape as I have long thin fingers.
4) I am trying to plan a budget for a 3 carat stone

I know cushions have to be bought by sight but am also wondering what sort of general specs we should be considering.

Thanks to all for your help!!

Just to clarify- it was a K colored Cushion and I loved it. I also have seen both antique and modern cushions side by side. i love the antique cushions but know they can be harder to find. thanks again!

Was it a 3 carat K diamond you saw, as the bigger a diamond gets the more saturated the color, so 2 carat will not
look at tinted as a 3 carat.

There is a huge range:

So 20-30k?

And I would work with either GOG or ERD (one of them, not both, then you make a mess) and give them your desires. The length to width ratio you like (since having an elongated stone is important to you.

I would tell them this:

Size: 2.8 to 3.5 carats.
L/w ratio: ___ whatever you want.
Color: K or J
Clarity: completely eyeclean (at all distances) Si1 or better.
Faceting: Modern or Antique faceting.
Additional: Best light return and brightest faceting possible.

How would you like to set it? If you're thinking of a halo, please keep in mind that, even though you're not color-sensitive, you may detect the hint of warmth in a K stone surrounded by F-G melee. Some people like the contrast, some do not. If you'd like a solitaire, this is not a problem.

An antique cut K stone will face up whiter than modern cut stones and will likely appear more like an I or J... so unless melee is D-E-F, I don't think there would be a big contrast with the halo stones. I have a larger MRB J in a halo with G-H melee and there isn't any contrast at all that I can tell -- especially face up. Also, if she gets an antique cut, she may consider single cuts anyway...

Pyramid- it was a 3.5ct k actually! It was sold to someone else though.

Msop- I have heard antique stones face up whiter. Why is that? I would really prefer an antique stone, I just know they are more rare.

I want to set it like this:

It's basically a halo before the micropave work is done. The other thing I'm considering is a traditional yellow gold halo.

I might need to start a new thread for this but how to pears compare cost wise to cushions?

bump?

Does Old World DIamonds have more stock than what they have online?
