I adore the look of the concave gems I have seen online. I want to buy them all.

But I think it would really be nice to check them out in person as well. Does anyone know of any gem shops in the Los A or San Fran area that carry concave gems?

Thanky in advance.

I don''t have an answer to your question. But, I do have a question. How do concave gems look different? I''ve been looking at them online and I can''t seem to figure it out. Are they rounded on top like a cabochon? Probably not, doesn''t look that way. Hmmm.

Go look here at Concavegems.com and I think they tell you how thy are cut. As to the look a concave cut is obvious and quite delicious to moi.

Richard Homer is the foremost cutter of concave gems in the world at this time. The facets are actually curved inward, concave, not convex as a cabachon. Sometimes he will concave both the crown and pavillion depending on the look he is shooting for. Most often he will concave facet just the pavilion which will give an incredible brilliance to the stone with virtually no windowing even in stones like quartz which are most often quite windowed.

P.S. Kimberly, if you email Richard at his site he should be able to tell you who, if anyone, has his gems in the LA area.

OK, I think I understand it now. I always have mixed up concave and convex. Those stones look beautiful.

Wink, do you sell other peoples custom cut stones besides Richard Homers?

Richard Homer was nice enough to email me and said he has no clue what California stores carry his stones. Hey Gene your site has some beauts too! :)

Thanks Kimberly.
I ordered a concave faceting machine a few weeks back, and should have some cut in a few months. I was initially not a big fan of this style cutting, but it''s starting to grow on me, and I see it as a new opportunity and maybe some fun.
