Hello,

Haven't posted for a while, but just realized that when in doubt about diamonds, I can always go to the experts at Pricescope for help. :)

Currently need to choose between the following two pairs of pear-shaped diamonds:

1. The first pair ($20,090):
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/matching-pairs/view.asp?item1=1294999&item2=1190260

For this pair, the symmetry is only "good", and it seems like the bowtie on the second stone is prominent. Both stones are supposed to be eye clean.

2. The second pair ($24.750):
Certs and photo are attached.
Like the fact that the symmetry are very good, though price is high for F color.

In your opinion, which pair has better match, proportion, and light performance? Also, which pair has "better" inclusions?

Thank you much and look forward to getting some advices.

Sending hello to Dave, Gary, and others...
Just read some of the old posts and felt very grateful that we have this forum.

Just from the pictures I like the second pair better (but I think its all about the pictures). Can you get asets of the stone
so you can check on the light preformance? I wish JA could give you a regular picture of those 2 stones side-by-side. I
think that would help.

Thanks for your reply tyty333! I completely agree with you. I have read that the best way to assess fancy cut stones is through visual inspection. Somehow I got the feeling that the two pears in the first pair won't look the same, even though they have similar outline, color, and dimensions. Was hoping that I could see them in the same picture too. I want it to work because the color is E, but still stuck at the look. Thanks so much for giving your input.

what do you plan to use these for?

I also would like to see a pic of the JA pears side by side

Hi Slg47, they are for earrings. Customer service at JA told me that they can't provide more pictures. And there is a 24 hrs hold policy, although they have been extending it.

Thinking about attaching each pear on a 0.5 -0.6 ct H&A round brilliant. But my sister thought the brilliance from a H&A round would overshadow the pear. What do you think? Or, maybe better attached on a heart-shaped stone like the one in the picture (sorry, it's blurry) or with micropave setting (another picture)? Thxxx.

For those who have viewed the pictures, even if you don't consider yourself an expert, can I please get your vote on which pair you like more? Thank you.

I like the second pair better.

And for pear earrings, I love the micropave halos. I have some blue topaz pear earrings with micropave halos and I love them.

second pair with the halo around gets my vote

Just got the picture from JA for the first pair, with both stones together side by side. What do you think? Any better, or you still prefer pair#2?

Tell me that you see what I am seeing...the bowtie from the first pair is darker, more defined in one of the stone. The bowtie in the second pair is whitish grey and look similar between both stones.

Since these are earrings and will be separated by your head, minute differences in facet patterning become a wash ;)) I think the two pairs of pears look very similar, and for this application, I would personally opt for the pair that costs $4700 less! So that would be the JA pair, which are E color to boot. You need to see these stones in person to assess the bowtie and your own love of them. I think the JA pair is worth further consideration.

I like halos on pears, and I think a drop style would be fine with RBs. The RBs will be static and the pears moving in the drops so that will equalize any differences in eye catchiness I think.
