On our full, ImaGem related, diamond reports, we will provide the surface area in square millimeters within the perimieter of the girdle. While we will still provide the depth percentage on fancy shapes as it relates only to width I have seen some good arguments for making more sense of the data available. With this in mind we will give this further data which takes length as well as width into account. It will also fully take into account the actual shape of a stone, so that the surface area of a pear shape with bulging shoulders has the correct surface measurement, not just a rounded calculation.
With this tool, one can readily compare the actual, visual size, of one diamond to any other in one simple step.
