First a huge thank you to those who respond to those of us who know next to nothing! You are patient and helpful.

I am purchasing from a local B&M as I get 100% trade-in. This limits my selection a bit, but I know with the help of others on this site I will at least get the best quality available for my price range and selection!!

Here are three options that I am looking at - are any of them by far better than the others? Any I should throw out for sure? The first two scored well on HCA; the third not so much, but I like that it''s a VS2. My preference is to stay G or above in color and (sigh) size does matter. I don''t have pics on any - they are all in a different branch and will have to be brought in for viewing. But, I didn''t want them to bring something in that really wasn''t worth looking at!

Thanks so much for your help.

Option #1 - 2.49/D/SI1
Cut=Excellent (GIA)
Depth %=59.9
Table %=60
Girdle =Thin to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Polish=Very Good
Symmetry=Very Good
Fluorescence=Faint
Measurements =8.75 X 8.80 X 5.26
Crown angle =34
pav angle =40.6
star=55
lower half=80

Option #2 - 2.12/F/SI1
Cut=Ideal (AGS0)
Depth %=60.1
Table %=57.4
Girdle =Thin to Medium, Faceted
Polish= Excellent
Symmetry= Excellent
Fluorescence=Negligible
Measurements =8.35 X 8.39 X 5.03
Crown angle =34.3
pav angle =41
star=53
lower half=76

Option #3 - 2.39/G/VS2
Cut=Excellent (GIA)
Depth %=61.8
Table %=56
Girdle =Thin to Medium, Faceted
Polish= Excellent
Symmetry= Excellent
Fluorescence=None
Measurements =8.61 X 8.64 X 5.33
Crown angle =35
pav angle =41.2
star=55
lower half=80

Oh, and I think this should pop up for every newbie like myself: WARNING: Regular use of PS could result in current diamond shrinkage !

#3 - crown and pavilion are too steep for each other. I'd avoid this one without images (ASET, IS).

I would prefer #2 as I like a smaller table, but cut-wise I don't know that there's much difference between the first two. One of the experts will chime in soon, no doubt

Ditto on 3, but can you bring all in and see them side by side through as many lighting conditions as you can? Then it should be easy to decide which one you like best.

If eye-clean my preference is #2 from the numbers, but #1 can be good too especially if you are suffering from DSS and if you like the 60/60 cut style.

One or two are the ones to concentrate on.

What in particular should be thinking aobut with respect to the 60/60 cut style?

Have a look at some compared to ones with smaller tables and see which you like, the critical angles are what can make or break a 60 60 same as any other diamond, the rest is down to personal preference.

60 60 info

I want to add with well cut stones, the differences are very subtle between a 60 60 and diamond with a smaller table, don''t expect them to be dramatically different to each other because they won''t be.

both links were interesting and helpful, though the more I "know" the less I know!!

If they are going to look similar side by side and the HCA scores are good, AND i have an idealscope which I will use (hopefully correctly),does it come to down which one "moves" me? is s it dependent on my sense of how they perform in different light settings? I guess what i am asking is there something inherent in the numbers that I should keep in mind? or are these reasonable quality cuts/etc and the selection has moved into subjective territory?

[NOTE: Though i poised it as a comparison of these options, I am not locked into buying immediately, so if the two we''ve narrowed it down to (1 & 2) aren''t all that great, I can keep looking.]

thanks again!

Yap, in the subjective territory now. :)

Absolutely, once you have diamonds of known excellent cut quality in front of you and you have compared them in various lighting situations it then comes down to which one '' speaks'' to you the most.

Hi
I am all about a clarity of VS especially in the high colors d-g, lately I have seen many si1''s that are black center imperfection ,somtimes they are more visible in the higher colors.

i really like the gvs2

ths is from the report for Opt #2 - the F SI1. It looks quite spotty to me. I am going to make an appt to look at it next week, along with the others, but I am not sure I like how it appears here. Also, the report is dated 2007 - seems kind of old - should that be a red flag of some sort? thank you

No worries on the age of the report. Many people don''t have the budget for big, higher-colour stones like that

. I think it''s more representative of the economy than of any fault in the stone.

Golden rule - don''t judge whether a diamond is eyeclean or not from the clarity plot as this is not a good method of evaluation.

Do not judge if a stone is eye-clean from clarity plot.
