THe first ASET & DiamXray is a DVS1 1.4Ct. Medium Fluorescence, Large Cutlet, Ideal Polish, VG Symmetry.

THe second ASET & DiamXray is DVS1 1.42Ct. no fluorescence, large cutlet, ideal polish, ideal symmetry.

HOw does cutlet and fluorences affect the brillance of a stone?

The images will tell you how the culet affects the light. See how in the ASET and DIAMXRAY images there is a white spot in the center? That indicates light leakage out of the culet for both diamonds. Any white areas indicate leakage.

Flour does not really affect the brilliance, unless it is SBF. Some people think SBF looks cloudy in bright sunlight (I haven't seen a SBF diamond, however, so I'm just saying what people say). For medium flour, the diamond may appear a higher color face up than during grading, but both of your diamonds are D color -- as white as can be -- so this will probably not make much of a difference.

So of the two aset & diamxray, which one will offer more brillance? Any negative things you see from either one?

any other comments would be greatly appreciated. what do you folks think of the two asets & diamxray compared to each other.

I am not experienced in reading aset images of cushions.... but from looking at this, I feel like the brighter/darker one has more contrast and thus more brillant. Also... you want more red.

here is a quick guide..

http://www.ideal-scope.com/1.using_reference_chart_ASET.asp

ASET shows where a diamond gathers its light.
Blue is blocked by the observer (some blue adds contrast)
Red is best: most light comes from above –from the ceiling
Green is OK; it is reflected and from windows, but red is better
White shows how much leakage is present (bad, especially when the leakage is adjacent to blue; when you will see a large dead dark zone in normal lighting)

Medium fluro won't do much.
Larger culet mean larger Kozibe effect (reflections of the culet) = more leakage but still even a large culet is not that large or noticeable until you get to very large or higher.

I prefer the first over the second less leakage under the table. Both will be very nice cushions but I prefer to see more red under the table and less blue near the culet.

glad you chimed in!

They are both great and are very similar. It ultimately depends on if you want a square cushion or rectangular cushion.

The first stone is a little better cut but it has the advantage of being square - the rectangular stones can be more difficult to achieve that HOWEVER I prefer the 2nd stone because in my opinion it has the more classic cushion shape. The difference in real life is going to be negligible enough that I'd chose the L:W ratio you prefer.

Prefer first ASET over second. Less white (leakage), more red and blue.
