I have fallen victim to this phenomenon. I admit, I even named mine "Peachy Precious". She''s also a girl. I don''t know why. I can''t explain it. Maybe someone can. I also notice a reference to "he", "she", "him" and "her" from colored stone owners on this forum. Fly Girl calls her green chameleon "Little Green", and it''s a boy. Shaunrice refers to his alexandrite as "her". I''m sure there are other PS''ers that I have left out.

Here are my questions:

1) Did you feel compelled to name your colored stone? If so, what is it? Why did you choose that name?

2) Is it a boy or a girl?

4) Can you please explain this need to "humanize" a colored stone? Does it speak to you or are you simply hearing things?

Mine don''t have names, but they do have genders in my mind.

Stones like kunzite are ''female'' and stones like my mali garnet are ''male''...

Don''t know why, just seems to be the way I think about things.

You may be on to something. Kunzites are a soft pink (feminine) while mali garnets have a green hue (masculine). Interesting....

Not at all. Maybe I''m weird?

2) Is it a boy or a girl? I think it''s a girl!

4) Can you please explain this need to ''humanize'' a colored stone? Does it speak to you or are you simply hearing things? Not sure how to answer this .............. a stunning gemstone makes me go "oh WOW" but that''s about it and I move on to the next one!

Harriet, you are not weird. You''re normal. Maybe I''m weird for naming my stone.

LS, you have a gorgeous stone! Is The Blueberry a girl or a boy? Its name is definitely fitting.

Ha ha yes - my diamond is Perry. She's a girl, but not a "girly-girl", hence the name.

2) Is it a boy or a girl?

4) Can you please explain this need to 'humanize' a colored stone? Does it speak to you or are you simply hearing things?

Can't explain it sorry, only feel the need with my larger diamond though. I'm sure I'll do it with my larger coloured gems too , but only if the mood strikes me

Harriet, you crack me up!

Can I name those beauties on your avatar? I already have a few in mind.

Umm, not at all. I''ve never even though of them having a "gender", much less a name.

Woo-hoo!!!

When I look at your rings, I see the "Holy Trinity of Bling".

From left to right: Minty Freddy (green), Ms. Scarlett (red) and Snoe Chloe (white). Snoe = snowy. Rhymes with Chloe.

Ya like?

Haha. Yes.

Well, my new babie is my alexandrite, and her name is Alexis lol! But my diamond is a "he", no name... just he. So is my emerald, don''t ask me why lol! My rubies are he''s too when I think about it. Not sure where the line is. My 5 carat mogok daddy is Clyde LOL! My big sapphire is Big Mamma...

Thanks Platinumrock
